i am just wondering if anyone has idea about my viability as an irish/uk applicant. i took the mcat last year 3x w/ a 34s, 32s, and a 35t then i stopped trying. however my gpa is low, very low 2.9 cum and 2.6 scgpa. As i tried to explain to medical schools this last go around my gpa is because my mother had cancer and was ill and passed away over my first 2 years of undergrad and i failed with about a 2.0 gpa for those years. I took 3 years after that to graduate and did fine after that but with that many low grades the math wouldnt work. i even took the extra year and got a 3.6 and a 3.5 with a full courseload and it only raised it a tiny amount. I have good ecs, volunteering, research, published 2 papers, etc. i dont want to do the carib so im going the smp route for next year and have gotten into the big 3, GU, UCinn, EVMS. Im confident that I can do the work fine enough to at least gain admission to the smp school if i go to evms or ucinn however im not sure how many other schools will ever forgive my ugrad gpa. my question is whether i am at all a candidate for irish or uk schools and if they would view good performance in a US smp as a deciding factor, or in my case enough of one. I havent seen too many threads on low gpa/high mcat in regards to irish schools and none that mentioned an SMP program. I am also an EU dual citizen (romania) and am being drawn to the idea of working in the EU as a physician more and more so Irish/uk schools are very appealing to me. so do i have a shot ??
