pediatrics residency in california? I just received my step 1 score and now I'm really worried about my chances of going back to Cali. Do you guys know about average scores for those programs? Thanks!

I remember reading on the .pdf file "charting outcomes of the match" that the national average for peds step 1 scores who match is 217 for MD seniors. I don't know about California specifically, but I think you could definitely have a change since your score is within the average.

Because of the location, the scores for Cali are going to be a bit higher than the nat'l average for peds. This doesnt mean you are out of the running at all though.

That is good enough for a peds residency anywhere assuming you have a good personality and pretty good clinical grades. If you want to guarantee a spot you may want to try to kill the step 2 though.

Get a good faculty advisor who can help you do the things necessary to get into a peds program out there. Very few people on SDN are qualified to give the advice as specific as what you really need. You might want to do some research, maybe a few LORs from the right people, maybe a really good PS....I really don't know. See if your school admin can connect you with someone who does though.

if you're doing peds be sure to honor your peds rotation. while a good step score is nice, peds is more focused on what you've done in peds and your intent/ interests for doing peds... good luck
