hey guys! i was just wondering......how good a score is 89 on bird's eye perspective??
also what if the cut off for interveiws and selection is 90 in many places......would 89 be given atleast some mercy and consideration ??
all responses would be highly regarded.
thanks........
K'jal.

kajal an 89 is very good grade, don't be nervous about it.

Even if schools had an 89 cutoff to interviews, they'll still need to at least interview below 90's people for several reasons.

People with 90+ get accepted more places, and they can only attend one, so they will withdraw acceptances from some of those extra schools. Leaving behind the withdrawn schools with a empty seat, that an 89niner (like you!) will go ahead and fill.

And since schools know this based on experience, that's the reason they interview so many people, and waitlist a bunch of them, 'cause they know eventually will need the waitlisted candidate to fill in a space.

Some candidates are upgraded to accepted from a waitlist even after school started, it depends how long accepted candidates take to reject the admission.

On the other hand..... Kajal are you from India?. I ask 'cause I see (rather read😛 ) that people from there worry too much about getting 90+. You guys have no idea how lucky you are you score upper 80's.
Among us things are not quite like that. I talk 'cause I've seen many people take this test and fail over and over, and then pass it with low scores.

So stop thinking about an 89 as a low score, and turn around your score report and check that you've managed to get yourself into a very high percentile. Good luck! 🙂

hey meggs! yes! am from India!!🙂 and about worrying for a 90 and all that..lol! yes we do worry bcos after all we come from the largest democracy in the world!! and the competition is such that everybody back home strives to do their best, so that even a 90 here would not keep you comfy! anyone who has taken the All India entrance exam would agree with me that indeed it could probably be one of the toughest and the most competitive exam on this planet!!
anyways, thanks buddy for your long reply!

Yes, kajal i totally agree with u.we can't help being paranoid here after our academic experiences in India. All india entrance and other state entrances are really a nightmare.maybe it is all for the best ,all those experiences will give us the strength needed to excel wherever we go.since 'survival of the fittest' seems to be the policy everywhere, people from the largest democracy will survive and thrive:laugh:

KAJALKIRAN:GO ahead and apply for universities asking for 90 in part -1.I had a friend who got accepted at Tufts in 2001 with the following scores(part-1=89,part-2=85).He told me that there was another student in his class with the same scores. You never know ,may be if they offered you an interview you can prove yourself to be more eligible or competitive than someone with 90!!!

Good luck.

yeah kajal i know one or two people who got into tufts too with one or two points less than the "cut-off" score....so go ahead and apply....who knows....u might get lucky!!! all the best!
