I scored 4-7 points higher on AAMC #4 than on any other practice test. Including AAMC #3, #5, #7 (aka the "easy" ones ).

Now...is it typical for most people to score higher on #4 specifically, or was it that it just happened to contain content I was especially comfortable with?

Two things to consider:

1) typically, people get stronger content-wise as they go so that trend may offset whatever difficulty trend there is
2) it's not really "easier", it is different though. MCAT is now much more analytical-based than detail-orientated. Early AAMCs have many content recall questions, now the MCAT has questions that still require you to have some background information but then ask you to use the information in the passage to take another step or two.

Many people struggle with the analytical skills the MCAT requires and are better at the more 'rote memorization' style of the early AAMCs. This is where the perceived difficulty lies IMO.

In your case though, it definitely seems like it was just an outlier given your other practice scores.
