Stony Brook has the following question in its secondary....
11. In your intellectual development and preparation for a medical career, which non-science college course has been most valuable? Why?

as far as non-science classes go, only my anthropology classes could fall in this category...I was considering writing about my Human Evolution class, however, this is borderline science/nonscience....any ideas? I was also thinking about the Anthropology of Medicine....

any ideas?

Thank you much...
I knowa BA is awarded for Anthro, however, Physical Anthropology overall is a borderline science...
Anatomy is considered a science, and it falls into the scope of Anthropology...
I am going to use my anthro classes for that essay.

The course I am choosing is titled the Anthropology of Medicine...getting real borderline....

I think it depends... I think here, at Michigan, there's a cultural anthro major and a bio-anthro major. It's my understanding that the former is a BA and the latter is a BS. It's also possible that I am completely full of $h!t.

I'm a Forensic Science major, which falls under Anthropology & Sociology.

Anthropology is classified as a "social science" as are Psychology, Sociology, and Political Science.

When medical school applications term the word "science," they mean "Natural" sciences only.

To be more specific, a science GPA is Bio, Chem, Physics, and Math.

Anthropology is DEFINATELY humanities unless that Anthro of Medicine is course designated by your school as being in your college of science under like biology or something.

Anthropology is defined at our school as, "Tribal Pornography." It's also BLATANT false advertising, 'Sexual Practices of Savages' was a misleading title :-\

Yup. this is right. To a med school, "science" means bio, chem, physics, and math (which is why they look at your BCPM grade seperate from your overall GPA). While Anthropology of Medicine may be a social science, and may voyage into some biology, its not a science for med school purposes. Good luck on your essay!

Thank you all very much! I am actually having fun going back and looking at what I studied in the past...
