Man, seems like everyone on this board has either interviewed or been accepted. I'm still waiting to attend my first interview in Feb. This process is getting pretty depressing. Is anyone else on the same boat as me?

I have one interview coming up Jan 16th at USUHS. That is my only one so far. I've also got three rejections pre-interview and haven't heard from about 15 schools. I'm a first-time August MCATer.

T-B

Although I have two interviews up to this point with no acceptances I thought I might post a thought.

There are most likely a lot of people who are lurking or just occasional posters who feel intimidated and thus won't post that they have no interviews. I totally agree that it seems so many are being interviewed/accepted here at SDN but think of this.

SDN is a small sample of the whole applicant pool. They tend to have higher stats, and/or more interviews/acceptances and are more likely to post them.

Bottom line, don't get discouraged. There is a lot of time left in the season, plus we have just passed a major point of "dead air", namely the holidays, when there is little news. Things should pick up in the next 2-3 weeks.

hey, i am as well waiting for my first itnerviews, i have one in jan and one in feb. (i had one in early septemeber but it was at my state school whihc offers everyone an interview so really that is no feat) but ya hang in, we just gotta take what they give us .. well get there no worries! good luck!

True dat, conure. I'm one of the ones still waiting too. It's hard not to get discouraged but then again that's what we're all here for...support. We'll be okay.🙂

If you do a search from last year, it seems like quite a few invites went out in January after the holiday break. Keep hope. The consistent posters on SDN aren't the majority. Promise.😀

At least you guys have some interview offers...i dont know any like me who does not even have an interview offer...i guess 27 on MCAT does suck...i wish i had done a little better...🙁

No interview here either. Chin up! If it doesn't happen this year we'll make it happen next.🙂

hey all, i applied to about 25 schools and all i have now is one interview in feb. the school that i'm interviewing at only took 5 days to decide that they wanted interview me, all the other schools had my application for 2 months now and still no word from them. So i really don't know what to conclude about all the other 20 or so schools (rejected by a few already). Just thought i'd share my sad story 🙁

thanks for posting...i know that i find support in the few of us SDNers without interviews under our belts. i am really just trying to keep a healthy perspective...and come up with a 'plan b' and am actually getting pretty excited about those prospects...of course, i will reapply...hang in there.

thanks for the posts everyone. i think i just realized that I should have a plan B too.

Last year, there were some people who did not have interview invitations until about February or March. There was one in particular, who received something like 6 interviews in a matter of a couple of weeks.

As for me, I only have had one interview so far and I am waiting to hear from something like 20 schools. Maybe, there is hope for us yet.

Hey there jolu, don't despair. I have only had one quick interview, same story as you, still waiting to hear from 12 places (my apps were complete in oct). But I got into that one school and am sitting here twiddling my thumbs 😕 because despite all these hard facts med school decisions are so damn ARBITRARY and you have to remain optimistic. one of my best friends applied to 26 schools, would make an EXcellent doc and hasn't heard a word from anyone. Let those committees get over their eggnogg hangovers 😴 and you'll hear something soon!

in the meantime, party like it's, well, the last year you have time for it...

Hey guys, my first post here. I also just have one interview coming up (at UIC on Jan 28). I was wondering which schools us "minimalists" will be interviewing at. Just curious to see if we can find a pattern in those schools who typically offer interviews to those who get few interviews elsewhere.

Last year, my first interview wasn't even until Feb; I didn't get in, so I reapplied this year; things will work out, trust me, I've been there

Truer words never spoken indeed things will work out, they always seem to do. I also have only late interivews, end of jan, and feb. So im not counting on getting in. but hang in there all waiting people atleast know there is me waiting and i have also accumulated so many rejection letters i could start, and keep the biggest bon fire going.. probably like 3 hours burning my stack of rejections alone so not to fear, we will make it

There are lots of schools looking for things more than just the #. My 26 with 6 interviews. Hope it cheers you up. Hang in there, your interviews will come.😎

Thanks Bunny! I am here...waiting, alive!..with all the support from people like you at SDN!!
Thanks again!

T-bruin.....don't get yourself worried about the numbers.....my 26 has already gotten me 4 interviews and I'm still waiting to hear from other schools.

Hang in there bro....I'm sure in the next 2 week or so, you'll get invited somewhere........keep us posted

wish u the best

Hang in there, everyone, interview invites do come in Jan. and Feb. Best of luck to all!! 🙂

out of curiousity, where can you get interviewed with a 26 MCAT

Well, i am trying to hang in there also. I am a second year applicant. I was rejected by 16 schools last year. Looks like this year may be a repeat performance. I have only heard from a few schools so far. Still waiting (like most of you) on about 13 more.

It is so hard imagining having to go thru this process for a third time. But i guess you have to do what you have to do, right? Do you think if you just keep applying, some school will eventually throw you a bone?

As for the numbers game, i definately think they look at your numbers first. i wish it weren't true, but there has to be some way to weed through thousands of applications.

Anyway, good luck to all of you out there. 😀

i took the august mcat and got a 27. i'm not a urm and have interviews at:

nymc
vermont
georgetown
drexel

keep your chins up 😍

I haven't had an interview yet either. Its wierd hearing about people waiting for aceptences when all I want is an interview. I've had 2 invites, but no real deal yet. Less than a month to go 'till my first one. I guess I need to really nail whatever interviews I get because I'm not going to get a whole lot of chances. For the love of gOD people, turn your apps in early!

Out of curiosity, where are you interviewing in the upcoming months? I'm a fellow California native and am lamenting how much emphasis the UCs place on the hard numbers.

Hi Dechee,
I too am a CA native being given the cold sholder by the UCs. I was rejected pre-secondary by USCF, UCSD, and UCD. I still have not heard whether I even will get secondaries from either UCLA or UCI, let alone interviews. I had an interview at USC in December, and really loved the place, so hopefully I'll hear from them soon as I really want to stay in CA. I have another interview at SLU on 2/4 and Drexel on 4/30. I really hope one of these comes through for me!! If curious my stats are:
3.3 undergrad (I had a rather good time though!)
3.7 graduate
31 MCAT
lots of research/patents/publications

Best of luck to you! In my opinion, the UCs are missing out on some quality people because of their emphasis on numbers!

it has been my experience that the uc's are not that big on numbers when giving out secondaries. i was really excited to receive secondaries from all but ucla. however, my numbers appear to be really hurting me since i have received no interview invitations. i'm on hold at uci, ucsd, and ucsf. i've heard nothing from davis post-secondary, and ucla can just kiss my ass 😉

It's good to hear the UCs are giving secondaries out to some of us not so high numbers applicants.🙂 God only knows why I haven't gotten secondaries from the UCs then! 🙂 I even got a secondary from Oregon Health Sciences, and I'm out of state! Go figure!! This whole process is such a crapshoot!

Good luck Lola, and I hope you get some UC interviews!

My first interview is next week Wed. (1/29) at Loyola. I would like everyone's opinion, though. My application wasn't complete until late Dec. (The week of Christmas!!! )due to a missing letter of recommendation and I was called for an interview last Thurs. (1/16). Should I read into the amazingly quick turn-around time???

😕

I had the same problem with a missing LOR, actually three of them, so my apps didn't get done until right before christmas too. I have interviews in PA at Penn State (2/17) and Drexel (3/11). I got secondaries from all the UCs, but I missed UCSD's deadline, so I'm out of that one, and I haven't heard squat from the others since then. I have no idea where I stand with them, but I don't think my chances are too good, but I would love an in-state interview. Pleeeeaaaasse.

Congrats to all you guys for scoring some interviews at some quality schools. Macdown, you took my interview spot at Loyola! =) I was calling them and asking them if I could interview on 1/29 because I'll be in town, but they passed on me for now. Loyola is the bomb school, and I'm sure they must really like what they see in your file to invite you. Good luck, they have some good folks at that school.

Moskeeto, you must have some kind of PA connection. What's a CA guy doing out there? Penn State sent me the "hold" letter about a month ago. Did you get that before you got the invite?

Booradley, at least you got some USC love. Hope that comes through for you, bro. That school took like 2 full months between when all my stuff got and when my file was actually showing complete. Argh. We've got some similar stats, so here's hoping that things work out for us.

Lola, I gotta disagree with you about the UCs being lenient with numbers. I'm CA resident, Duke grad with 3.2 GPA and 33R, and got absolutely no love from any of the UCs -- no secondaries at all, early rejection e-mails back in October. Maybe they set the GPA threshhold at 3.4 or something, which is death for many engineers and graduates from places like Caltech. It's like they didn't even look at my file. On the other hand, I got love from out of state places that screen such as Wake Forest, Kansas, UIC, and Oregon. But Lola, you must got something going on because you scored interviews in Vermont and Georgetown. I already got the diss at Georgetown but I would love to go to Vermont. Let us know what your experience out there is like.

Hey gang,

I put in my apps super-late but have passed all the secondary hoops (esp at the UCs  ). Submitted to Ohio State in Dec and got an interview invite 2 weeks ago for 2/3. (wish me luck!)

I keep telling myself interviews aren't over til March and, at some schools, April and May!

I love SDN for the moral support and I wish we could all have a group huddle!

congrats on your uic interview. all you need is one good one! you could be right about the uc's having a gpa cutoff. i'm not sure about that. i think they tend to like people with high numbers or people who are unique in some way. i know people with decent numbers who didn't get uc secondaries but got into good out of state schools, so don't give up hope! and hey, i'm jealous of your wake forest secondary. they rejected me pre-secondary!

out of curiousity... did you get a pre-secondary rejection from ucla? i'm still waiting on them and am wondering they've rejected anyone yet 🙄

Its funny, I really have no Pa connection what-so-ever. I've been there once, thats about it. The reason I applied to Drexel is because I was really interested in the PIL and the history as a women's medical school. The Penn State thing had more to do with a really good professor being a chocolate freak. Everynow and then, when I'd go to his office, I'd bring him a Hershey bar. I know that sounds dumb, its not the only reason I applied there, but I can't wait for my interview so I can send him something from there. I never got the "hold" letter, sorry, good luck though.

You know what would have been a funnier answer is if I said I applied to Penn State thinking it was U Penn.

If your applications went-in in Nov., the review boards are just now getting to them. Keep the faith! I got my "invite" in Jan. for the 7th of Feb. and one in March. Wish me luck....I am S_ _ _ _ _ _ BRICKS!

I sent in my applications in late August and only heard from two schools( one interview, one rejection). Look on the bright side, no news is better than bad news🙂
