So I am getting my 2nd letters of recommendation from a professor at the end of august to complete my application. I know it is always highly recommended to apply as early as possible, but would completing my app in august/september greatly hurt my chances?

You should submit your app asap, and the letters can follow. Otherwise, yes, September is getting late. Though, it's not as though it's impossible to get in if you apply that late, I applied in November. Also, many schools need 3 letters, be sure to check with the schools you're interested in to confirm the requirement.

But dont I have to complete the entire application in order for the schools to start evaluating my application? Even if I submitted everything else, and I am lacking my letters, they still woulnt start evaluating my application right?

Correct, but they'll have the application waiting and ready to go for when the letters follow later, which will make the process go faster.

Most people I know who had their application completed late (e.g. submitted late, and even those who applied first day but had a lagging LOR) didn't hear back until later in January. If your stats are below average, like 3.2 and 19 for example, it really does jeopardize your application IMO. I think Vicviper's case is the exception and not the rule because most people who submit that late typically don't hear back from that many schools.

Try to get your prof to get your LOR in to AADSAS in July if he can, otherwise in all likelihood that lagging LOR will dramatically reduce your chances to hear back for pre-Dec interviews.

I am able to get a LOE from a bio plant professor, which might not be as strong of a LOE considering it to be a plant course. Do you recommend just sending that one in as the 2nd LOE and maybe send in a third one, which is from a physiology professor, later in August to make up for it?

Have everything ready (essays, transcripts)...don't worry about turning it in at the end of August/early Sept. Transcripts require verification by AADSAS and its a b*tch...literally. A lot more people end up applying at that time than you think...its because of the transcript verifications or when your school sends out committee letters...they usually send it a little later and its out of your hands...

...anytime after sept is starting to get late...

It's definitely possible, but it will put you at a big disadvantage. My application wasn't complete until the end of September. I only received one interview before December. The other ones were all post-December meaning schools were already started filling up the class... But it's possible. Best of luck!

Agreed!!! I applied late. Submitted last week of September and application was not mailed til the beginning of October. TERRI-BAD. Only got 2 interviews/10 schools in late February and barely scraped by. DON'T APPLY LATE!

So how long does the transcript verification usually take? If I finish all the transcript verification...personal statement.. etc. and send in my last LOE end of august my app would be available late september? i guess that would be considered late isnt it...

AADSAS Application Submission requires:

  • Transcripts (having this late will delay submission of your app)
  • Personal Statement
  • Yo $$ for AADSAS (primary fee)
---Transcript Verification (1 day - 2 weeks, varies)---

AADSAS Application Completion at the Dental School (the most important thing!) requires:

  • A submitted AADSAS application, after your transcript has been verified
  • DAT Scores (done thru AADSAS update)
  • LORs (done thru AADSAS update)
  • Secondaries if applicable (submitted directly to school, not AADSAS)
  • Yo $$ for each individual school (secondary fees, submitted directly to school)
    • Having any of these in late will delay the completion of your app.
---Review by Admissions Committee, wait to hear for interview invite starting Sept (1 - 9 months )---
During this period its normal to be :scared::scared: all the time, constantly checking your inbox, your call log, etc, etc for that interview invite. Just try your best to relax it's gonna be a long process and you don't wanna worry youself to death 😉

You can also submit your DATs and LORs at the same time you submit your AADSAS application. But if you have neither don't wait for either of these 2 things to submit your app, because transcript processing can take 2-3 weeks sometimes. The application process can be a logistical mess, post more questions if you have any.

Why don't you just ask for a LOR right now instead of at the end of August? Then there wouldn't be any problem. I'm assuming you have taken at least 2 science classes by now.
