I've been reading about the posts that people got rejected already. Some of them seemed to apply early (June/July) with decent GPA/DAT/extracurriculum, so I am wondering whether applying early increases your chance of getting in. I thought it affected a lot, but now I am not sure. Does anyone know?

Thanks!

You mean you are wondering whether or not applying early magically improves gpa/dat.

The way you are asking makes it seem like you believe applying in June entails almost always getting an interview, which is not the case. Just like gpa, dat, ecs, etc on SDN, a large number of the people here do not represent the average candidate, and stress applying early way more than the majority. Applying early might give you a slight advantage as opposed to applying in the late summer or autumn, but will not give you such an edge that you should be expecting tons of invites for that sole reason.

Just apply as early as you can, while still making sure you have a strong application. Do not submit when you feel it can be improved with a bit of time (retake, shadowing, etc).

Applying early doesn't increase your chances in the way you're thinking. What it does accomplish, is to increase the likelihood that you will secure a limited number of pre-Dec interview seats (from a smaller applicant pool) that would otherwise be taken by someone else who did apply early.

TLDR: Not having your application submitted at any given time means zero chance of getting an interview at that particular time.

Applying early doesn't increase your chances, but applying too late will hurt your chances.

Sorry if my question made it sound like applying early drastically increases the chance of getting the interview. The way I understand from all the responses is that applying early will give you some advantage since the dental schools review your application earlier. This could be interpreted as as long as your application is decent, it is likely that you will get the interview invite. Right?

Correct me if I am wrong.

The reason why I am asking is that my overall GPA isn't great, but there isn't much that I can do about that part. So I would like to increase my chance of getting interviews somehow and thought of applying early as possible.

Anyway thank you all for the responses!
