Is applying for a job online is a joke?

Nope, most sites require you fill out an online application to be considered. They need your information in the HR database in order to offer you employment. All the jobs/interviews I've gotten, I've applied online.

Not a joke, this is the start for most positions especially if you don't live near the job sites...in fact, for my current job I applied for the position 6 months before HR finally got to calling me for an interview and I live about an hour away from the hospital so I wasn't about to drive there to drop my CV...but if you don't mind the drive or the place where you are considering is near you, then definitely try to see if you can drop your application in person and perhaps even speak to the director if possible
