Its OK but its not one of the best in the country...

they have significant inbreeding, 90% are the brown PLME undergrad-med school program.

their location is subpar too

yeah, applicants tend not to care that much about brown because it's pretty much impossible (?) to get in unless you are part of that program as a brown undergrad or do the dartmouth-brown program (1st 2 years at dartmouth, 3rd and 4th years in providence).

Saying Brown Medical School is just O.K. is taking a slavish devotion to rankings to the extreme. I'd venture to guess that its student body is one of the sharpest around, a major consideration since having smart classmates is important at any level of education. Subpar location? What's wrong with Providence? It's close to most major East Coast cities and pretty livable in its own right. It be may true that it's not wise pinning your hopes on going to Brown Med(although I think there is a loophole for those who complete the Columbia post-bacc program), but that's no reason to trash the medical school. Sorry to lecture, but this post was just crying out for a response. "Is Brown Med that bad?" Of coure not. Have some perspective, people.

Aw, Providence is definitely not a bad place. Sure, it isn't NYC but some people don't want to live in a huge city. It is a very diverse area with the charm of a town!

Rhode Island isn't for everyone. It is the kind of state where everyone knows everyone. People tend to stay within five miles for generations. Some people think this kind of environment is stiffling. Some people really like it.

I don't have much to say about the med school 🙂 It certainly isn't bad, it just doesn't have the reputation of some of the other IVY med schools. It doesn't have as much research. Women and Infants isn't at the same level as Brigham and Women's etc. If you live in Rhode Island and you are really sick, you still may be referred to Boston instead of one of the Providence hospitals.
