Is Cranial OMM still a thing?

I was talking to one of my MD colleagues today and the topic of our training came up. Somehow it went into OMM and cranial osteopathy. I told them it was probably the dumbest thing I had to endure in my medical training and I wonder if it’s still being taught. Is it still being taught in DO curriculum?

I know of it being taught as recently as 5 years ago from folks junior to me.

I hated cranial. It was frustrating being shown a cranial suture fmri scan of sorts, with articulation movement magnified/exaggerated like 5x… there still wasn’t discernible movement, but we were told there was. Yikes.

Yes, it is still taught. We recently learned it. Out all the stuff we learned, it is the wackiest.

Sadly, yes.

I used to argue all the time with the True Believer types in our OMM/OMT department, because having seen quite a few skulls in my academic career, I know that those cranial bones do NOT move.

After a while I just got tired of it. It's like trying to talk reason with Believers in Bigfoot, or flat earthers.

Yes, but my OMM professor did not drink the cool aid.

He and another DO professor did a whole hilarious skit with acting and costumes and all trying to prep us for the BS to come. And told us to keep open minded only for the sake of passing boards.

My good ol school....so sad the professor turnover rate was so high. My class got lucky. We were the last group before all the OG guys who started with the school all left. Now it's managed by people who have no understanding of student needs.
