I submitted my application on June 3rd and I am planning on taking the DAT the end of August. Do you think the end of August is too late? Also, how many hours a day do you recommend studying to prepare for an August DAT? One more thing...do people study 7 days a week?

If you've submitted your application already and all your LOR's and transcripts have been mailed, the end of August isn't that late. Most of the schools should receive your application around that time so once you get your scores, mail it out to the schools. Just don't wait any later to take the exam, otherwise the schools will have to put your application on hold until they get them.

It is not too late if you do well on the exam. Just make sure you are ready when you take it. If I were you I would study, study, study and make it your life for 2 months. 8 hrs a day if you can. Every school has a rolling admissions cycle, which means they start reviewing applications as they come in. So in your case they won't review it until your DAT is done. Word of advice is to immediatly fax your unofficial score copy that you will get the day you take the test to all the dental schools you are applying. That will speed up your application getting looked at, because scores take 2-4 weeks to get the schools from the adea.

good luck!

what if you send both(DAT results and application) at the end of August or beginning of September?

Since it takes approximately 2 months (if AADSAS is on top of things) to get your application out, the schools won't receive ituntil November. That's two months worth of interviewing that has passed while your application is being processed. Get that application completed as soon as possible. The end of August isn't late by any means (when I applied, my application was completed in November). The sooner you get it out, the better.

so what's the latest "early" date to make sure we have our apps in by? if it takes 2 months to process and they start reviewing them in september (i think?) then july is the latest i should aim to send out the online apps?

get your app done as soon as possible, because you will have supplemental stuff to do for some schools as well. So you want to get that AADSAS app sent off soon so by august all the schools have received it. Then in the meantime you slowly fill out supplemental materials and study for your dat.
