Fam, I'm trying to figure out why there is so much radio silence. I got into a school, but for like the $100+ that we spend on submitting applications, you'd think we'd be afforded at least an R notice.

This limbo situation sucks badly.

With so many applications, yes. Of course it's not for just one spot, so getting autorejected like in an employment situation isn't that common.

Its easy to ghost : less energy, easier to be non confrontational , and its not like many are reject-worthy; they may be top 1% but not top 1% of top 1% so they may be an ideal backup to hold in an imaginary “reserve list”.

If you’re on a dating app and are a girl, then you will understand this metaphor. Hundreds of men msg you on the daily to the point that within days you end up with thousands unread DMs; you end up ghosting because you just cant keep up and at same time they all look attractive to you so you dont wanna reject. Many of them have very good prospects so you just focus on flirting with just a handful of top 0.1% and if those fail, move down the list. You end up accidentally screwing over many suitors who are eternally waiting but whom you find also attractive so youd rather hold em to the side and keep weighing options. The same applies to MD/DO schools; very immature I know but its the Game

Not a great example.

Dating has a lot to do with the superficial and intangible. Your application gets stronger the more you add to it with numbers, activities, recommendations, etc. If you win an Olympic Gold medal, your application shoots to the top. Doesn't work like that in the dating world.

I don't disagree with that. I never said anything about merit-based. Those are your words.

The point you missed was that you can enhance your medical school application...even though it is a superficial process. I am agreeing that it is a superficial process.

In the dating pool, you're kinda working with what you got already. There's minimal return with "working on yourself." That's the truth.

More than all of that, you spend like 150 an application- a fee sent as a cost for them to review your app. It’s a service charge so you expect a service no?

You should get used to paying a lot of money for nothing. Welcome to medical education.
