Is having two IIs right now doing ok?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I applied to ~20 schools, most of them in late August ~ mid-September. I am very blessed to have gotten 2 IIs (one from a "match" and one from a reach school) already but seeing others with more makes me neurotic af. I think I need someone to smack me in the head and tell me to chill.
It's natural, and contagious on SDN, but please tell me you are not serious about being nervous after receiving two IIs within a month of applying. 😎

You shouldn't be comparing yourself to anyone, especially not this early in the cycle, and really not to people who might have applied two months before you. Chill. You are doing great considering you only applied between two and four weeks ago. Your early returns suggest you'll have at least a half dozen by Thanksgiving. How many more were you expecting?

I really feel like this is a brag post and not a genuine question. OP, unless living under a rock, should know two II already is very good. Honestly think these type of posts should be removed for the mental health of those still waiting. (PS: I'm already in med school so won't affect me)

More than OK.

So chill.

I was genuinely feeling insecure seeing so many excellent applicants on SDN, but I understand this is a rough process for all. Sorry if my post gave people more anxiety. You are all amazing and are due for good news.

There are several candidates with more than two IIs so I doubt it's a brag post. Best medicine is don't check SDN every day 🙂

With all due respect, two IIs after between 2 and 4 weeks is pretty damn good, and very few people are able to match or beat it.

I am not disputing that my friend and all I am saying is I don't think OP is bragging about it.

I have one II and was very happy with it until I saw all the people on SDN with 10+ IIs already . Felt much better once I stopped following the school threads so religiously lmao

Correction: You saw people who claim to have 10+ IIs. Some are likely legit, but a number are probably BS.

Updating to say I've since then gotten 3 more IIs. I just needed to be patient and confident.
Very nice. Are you surprised by which schools you received II's from ? Are you having luck from those above your weight class ? Are some of your II's from schools where your secondaries were completed many weeks ago ?

I'm genuinely curious why people would fake this. Like what would you even gain by claiming more II's than you have? This site / Reddit is already anonymous, so what's the point of fake flexing? Unless SDN peeps are legit trying to foster anxiety among premeds for no apparent reason, it makes no sense

Some do, many don't. Why does anyone troll? The point of faking is to torment people who are already on edge. It happens. Believe it! Obvious instances are outed. There is no reason to believe more subtle form of BS get through every day. Exaggerating success to make other people feel bad would be a more subtle form of trolling, since it is certainly believable.

Out of my 5 IIs, two are from IS public (both complete early August), one is from IS private (complete early September), and two from T20 (both complete late August-early September).

Idk how "expected" my IIs are but I'm treating every interview as my only chance at acceptance.

There are people that like to think they are more important than they really are or like to make themselves feel superior even when it is contrary to reality. There are people that also like to troll and feed off of other people's anxiety. Google Narcissistic Personality Disorder and narcissistic supply. There are many narcissists that are drawn to medicine because of social status, high income, and the perception of being smart or <insert some other superlative here>.

The DSM-V lists nine criteria (of which >=5 must be present):

  • Has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g. exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements).
  • Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love.
  • Believes that they are "special" and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions).
  • Requires excessive admiration.
  • Has a sense of entitlement (i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with their expectations).
  • Is interpersonally exploitative (i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve their own ends).
  • Lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others.
  • Is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of them.
  • Shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes.

Although not listed in the DSM-V, narcissists are also often pathological liars. They often feed off of chaos and anxiety in others. I'm sure we all know at least a few pre-meds that satisfy this criteria.
