I am taking orgo 1 during summer 1 and planing to take orgo 2 during summer 2.

A few days ago, I met my pre dent adviser.

During whole 30mins, she just tried to persuade me to drop the course.

She said taking ogro during summer was the worst decision.

Would it be really a disadvantage on me when I apply for dental schools?

Thank you

Some dental schools like to see you take "harder" classes at your home univeristy and not a community college. So I would find out what the dental school you are looking at wants. But your advisor may be advising you to drop the summer course because it may be too time consuming and/ or too much work for you to be boggled down with in the summer.

I don't think it is a mistake, as long as you are determined to do well in the course.

i don't think it's a bad idea. it's a lot of material smashed into 1/3 the time it normally takes but since you're only taking orgo, you should have the benefit of focusing all your attention on it.

If you're focused and study everyday, you should be fine. But that's easier said then done. Taking Orgo 1 and 2 during the summer is going to be a buttload of work, but I would stick with it and see how it goes. If you feel like it's too much work, there's always the option to drop the course.

My advisor told me that it looks better to take pre-req classes during the regular school year with other courses so that adcoms know you can handle the courseload. I don't think a couple classes will hurt, though. Due to my schedule, I had to take take Gen Chem over the summer. It was fine, but my advisor told me not to take any more pre-reqs over the summer.

I did Orgo I and II over the summer and it was fine. I guess the question is why do you want to take it over the summer? I took it because I was a non-trad. applicant and my class sequencing was bit weird. By taking Orgo over the summer, I was able to get back on track and get into Biochem which had orgo prereqs. If you're taking it just to get it over with, you might want to reconsider. If you're taking it to squeeze in more upper level classes or for some other good reason I don't see the problem. Good luck!!
