I've been searching on SDN to see if there was a similar thread but I couldn't find one that relates to my question.

I've recently sent a several checks out for my supplementary application for pharmacy school, but I've just been accepted to a pharmacy school. Is it a bad idea to call these other schools that I've applied to and withdrawal my supplementary application before they deposit my checks? My friend told me it's a bad idea, but I can't think of a reason why. Do these schools communicate with each other and say, "such and such withdrew their apps..blahblah?" I'm probably just being super paranoid, but I would like to get some opinions. I'm paranoid, because my first choice school hasn't started interviews yet and I'm also going to some more interviews. As you all know, application fees aren't cheap. Interview travel expenses aren't cheap either. I would love to save as much money as I can.

Thanks in advance to those that will reply.

First of all, congratulations on your acceptance!

I personally would not. It's okay to withdraw your application but asking for your fee back is unprofessional. It's non refundable for reasons like this. That's the risk you take with this whole process.

You could always stop payment on those checks. I don't think those schools would mind.

Also, are you a female? Because I don't think a guy would have the balls to ask for their money back in such a situation.

Wow.. not even in pharmacy school yet and you sound like you have already been brain washed by the hours and hours of crap I have sat through about being professional. Easy now kid, there will be plenty of time to be lectured about acting professional

On a serious note, this isn't bad advice. I wouldn't worry about not seeming professional, I would definitely withdraw if I would get my $60 back. The fact is you just probably won't ever see that money again. Non-refundable. Sucks.

FYI cancelling a check is often accompanied by a $30 fee. This will, of course, depend on your bank. My point is it is a hassle and you probably won't ever get your money back. Count your losses.

Trust me, pharmacy school will find many many more ways to dig into your wallet $50 at a time. Just get used to it.

eh hem.. or $60,000 at a time in the case of my federal unsubsidized and grad+ loans for this year.

Sorry but I think you misread my original post. I submitted my app already but they haven't deposited my check. So in a way, I'm not asking for my money back. I would just be asking them to throw away my supplementary app including my check.

Um.. if they threw out your check that would be asking for your money back.

You have a pretty long list of good advice, just take it and stop beating this thread to death. They WILL NOT give you your money back because they still have to process the supplemental application and that is what the fee you sent is for. Don't bother withdrawing your application, just wait to hear back from these schools. If a school contacts you for an interview, politely decline the interview offer and move on with your life.
