Is it a bad move to ask for more scholarship money?

What do you all think about asking the school if there are possibly any other scholarship opportunities...even when they already gave you some?

My top choice school gave me a decent amount ($15K) based on merit, but I'm still struggling so hard to make a decision because after factoring COL (I would commute 2 hours a day), it is still about 20K more than my second choice. I want to ask (based on my mantra "you never know if you never ask..."), but I don't want to come off as cocky or ungrateful, because I'm honestly so thankful they gave me anything to begin with. When I was accepted, the coordinator already stated in an email that the school only offers merit based scholarships, so I also don't want to seem like I didn't read what she wrote at all, if that makes sense.

Should I email and ask? How would you approach this? The deadline for the deposit is soon, on 1/15 :hungover:

I don't think it would offend them if you asked for additional scholarship options versus asking them to increase the amount already given. Most professors and schools should understand their cost of attendance is insane for what PTs get in return. It's up to you to decide ultimately if the 20k you would save is worth going to a different school.

wow thanks for answering my questions on multiple threads cmquin12!!

Yeah, I emailed asking for additional options, so I guess I'll just wait and see. Fingers crossed 🙂

I asked my top school for more money, and they increased my scholarship from 20k to 25k. I just explained how they were my top choice and how grateful I was for the offered amount, but that I was also accepted to other schools with varying scholarships and that my final decision would ultimately depend on scholarships. The worst thing they can say is no, not much to lose.

Hello there,
Do they offer you scholarships after you confirm your acceptance and place a deposit on the school? Thank you.

Depends on the program! I got scholarships at 3/4 schools I was accepted to. 2 of them had the amount along with the acceptance letter. One of them sent it in about a month later by email. Other schools might do it after deposit. All depends.

Thanks! I'm hopeful that might happen to me too 🙂

They didn't provide any new scholarship opportunities, but the coordinator told me I could apply to work in a lab for a stipend. I'm glad I asked anyways. 🙂

I would totally take them up on that work offer. I work as a GA its been a great experience and the ability to network with professors and add it onto my resume to try and set yourself apart after graduating

Yeah! I told the coordinator that I'm interested and will definitely look into it more. Thanks for the advice 🙂
