I was wondering if its a good idea to mention in my application this year that I am third time re-applicant and talk about how this has made me more determined to pursue dentistry .
If yes, what part of application do you mention this in (personal essay, additional essays).
As my personal statement has been similar these past two cycles, what else can I write to make it different?

Any helpful comments would be appreciated🙂

Determination alone is not going to help you master anatomy, histo, path, biochem, pharmacology to name a few. It might be wise to include the changes/improvement you made in your stats since your first application.

You'll be required to state that you're a reapplicant on the AADSAS application. This question is in an entirely separate block of questions independent of the personal essay. If I remember correctly, it is blocked with the disciplinary/academic integrity type of questions. You'll have a small amount of space to expand on your answer (so it's kind of like an additional essay).

Personally... I think thats a mistake..... You are directly inviting them to learn that your application wasn't good enough 2 cycles in a row.

Focus on your strengths and why you want to be a dentist. Simply chucking money at the application process doesn't show determination, but improving DAT+GPA does, and highlighting that will prove your tenacity.

The only place (other than AADSAS check box for re-applicant) is the Personal statement (oh and the 2ndary application)

dont you have to state your a reapplicant?
Im not sure if you have to restate it on your direct aadsas app but certain schools i know have specific supplementals for reapplicants which is where you address what youve been up to since ur last app cycle

also i wouldnt write about it in your personal statement bc what if you apply to schools you didnt apply to before? (bc isnt the PS universal, every school seems the same one?) you wouldnt technically be a reapplicant there....and youd just tell these new schools youve been rejected twice before...not a good look?

Oh, that's really good to know! I'm currently chopping out important paragraphs in my personal statement to add in a paragraph about my master's program. Should I keep my old(er)/equally important experiences and just talk about my academic improvements in that other section that you mentioned?

No I wouldn't add that to a PS, as most people posted above.

But, I would bring it up in the IV - esp if I'm interviewing a second time at the same school.

I did and i feel that it shows that you are determined and dedicated to become a dentist. But you do have to improve your application in some way ( eg DAT, personal statement, GPA, ect.) Good luck

I applied twice. The second time I applied I stated I was a reapplicant (even in my personal statement). DO NOT say that you are more determined now because it will make the admissions committees think that you were not that determined before. Just my opinion.

I applied twice and I did not state anything about it in my personal statement. Instead, I focused on the things I would be doing in the next year while I waited around.

Being a reapplicant came up a lot during my interviews. When I was asked what are some tough decisions you've had to make? I answered reapplying to dental school. I told them that I second guessed myself and I didn't feel like dentistry was right for me anymore so I researched other careers and did more job shadowing. I took a lot of time out to think and reflect about my future. In the end I took the rejection as motivation instead of a setback and realized I would not be happy with anything other than dentistry. I also told them that I feel I had to reapply because I definately underestimated how competitive the application process really was. My application wasn't 100% complete until october!!
