Is it absolutely mandatory to repeat a law course before you are allowed to re-take the MPJE?

If you fail your first attempt you should not have to do any of that. You'd just need to immediately pay another $210 to NABP for that MPJE and they will submit another request to your state's BOP as a 'resit after failure.' The BOP should then approve it without consequence. Pearson just won't let you schedule for 30 days. The consequence is usually after the fourth attempt on the NAPLEX for one last and final attempt.

NABP states you can only take NAPLEX five times, period. That is the max. Some states require that you take classes after the fourth failing before they allow you to take it one last time.

The 5 attempt limit is from NABP. The 'do not pass go, return directly to pharmacy school' comes from your state's BOP. If they did require you to go back to school it wouldn't have to be your school necessarily. Also, if your issue is solely with the MPJE they may just require you to take the hefty set of Law CE they reserve for disciplining pharmacists before approving that fifth attempt.

By your profile sidebar I suspect by you are seeking licensure in FL. FL does not explicitly say they have an attempt limit. Even if you failed the MPJE in FL after 5 attempts if you pass the NAPLEX you still have 5 attempts on another state's MPJE.

Hopefully their requirements after the first failure are more lenient than after the second.

I did not receive any notification telling me to take law courses. I just had to wait the standard 30 day period. The law class rule might apply for when one fails the MPJE 5 times and still needs to take it again. So I'm guessing it might vary state to state, however the 5 times Pass rule was implemented by NABP, so I don't know how much input the states have in this.

Depends on the state that you're in. In IL, if you fail three exams (either MPJE, NAPLEX or both) then you must take a course or a 30 hour preceptorship.

Shoot, I didn't read the part where you said you just finished your preceptorship, so I asked you too soon. I hope it helps you pass the test this time, in the mean time, I am going to burn the midnight candle on this thing because my anxiety meter has just gone up a notch. I need to calm myself down and breathe.

Well my preceptor didn't take it as seriously as I did but I used the outline that I made as a study guide for the future so that helped me. Plus I did it while working and doing that on a daily basis helped out a lot. I haven't taken it yet. I just finished the preceptorship and waiting on my ATT. This process took me a while. I got notified that I didn't pass in early October and I am finally able to sign up for the exams. I think it depends on how fast your state is. Check to be sure though if your state board is going to meet in December. IL doesn't meet until January.

What study strategies do you think did NOT work for you?

I heard the MPJE is a tricky exam, and that rote memorization of the law will not help. Is that true? I feel absolutely lost when it comes to preparing for the MPJE.

Don't freak out! That's what I did on all the exams and look where it got me haha. Also fyi asking to sit by the trash can while taking the exam never goes well with the proctors.

The next time I didn't write out the information and got a 61. Though in hindsight, I shouldn't have answered the questions like on what I do with that situation in the store because you know sometimes the law isn't as black and white.

Yes! Take slow deep breathes, think positively about you passing the exam and how life will be wonderful after that. Think happy thoughts. Anxiety is a terrible thing that is hard to describe to people that don't experience it. I completely understand your situation. You'll be fine. You'll be awesome and you're going to be a pharmacist regardless of the outcome.

You mean as in we shouldn't answer the questions in a way that shows what we would do when we are working in an actual store, but rather, we need to answer the questions strictly according to what the official law statutes dictate we should do? Is that what you meant?

How long in total did you study for your first take, and how long did you wait before you took it the second time? Do you think maybe pushing back your first try by another month could have helped boost the 73 up by a few points? I feel like many of us are rushed into the test unprepared, but then it's like some folks say, you can never feel truly ready for these adaptive tests.

I seriously have a good feeling about your next attempt, I think you will pass with flying colors.

Hi Pablo123,

Okay so essentially all you need to do is look for a preceptor. I didn't look for a course since I currently work and since I have been keeping my boss up to date with everything he said that he would be my preceptor. After finding a preceptor, you need to write out an outline as to what you're going to look over and study. I recommend just essentially copy and paste the sample they gave you. That's what I did. Then I let my boss signed it and mailed it to the board. It takes a while for it to get approved by the pharmacy board and then the director. After they approve it, then you essentially look over the outline or study for 30 hours. After the 30 hours is complete, you and your preceptor will create a letter (I recommend asking your preceptor to write a letter, email it and even call just in case something happens) to the guy that wrote that letter (Robert) and he will say that it's approved. His office approves it so you don't have to wait forever for the board to approve it again. I would recommend if you have any questions just to call or email Robert (he's pretty fast on emailing back). He's extremely nice and willing to work with you. He even emailed my letter of approval to me as well as mailed it to help speed along the process since it took a while to get mine going.

I really appreciate you taking the time to explain the process to me, thank you very much. I have been trying to contact Robert but no luck yet, left 2 messages last week and emailed him twice asking about the process. I am really in a tough spot, basically I had a job with Walgreens, and was recently let go because I was unable to get licensed (due to failing Naplex) within 3 months of graduation, they extended once already, but since I failed again...they decided to terminate me. Therefore, I no longer have a "preceptor" to goto. I did, however, purchase passnaplex.com now material (which costs me over $1,000), it includes study material, along with live classes and ability to speak and ask questions to the 2 doctors in charge of the program. I am hoping that will serve as the "30-hr" preceptor remedial program. Thoughts? My 91 days will be end of mid-March, so that is when I can sit for boards again...I'm just hoping I can take the boards by end of March or even early April, pending this remedial program stuff that needs to be taken care off. Can I ask a pharmacist friend of mine to be my preceptor and create a study program with them?

Hey Notanorange, I unfortunately did not pass NAPLEX once and MPJE twice as well. My question for you is since you chose the preceptorship route to complete your remedial training, did you have to complete 30 hours for both NAPLEX and MPJE (60 hours total) or is it 30 hours total?? You just have to do one of the two. Just 30 hours in total.

Yeah that's true. The board only meets at certain times. I think with mine I filled it out back in October and I didn't get it approved until late November. Just look to see when they meet and quickly draw up an outline. I just recommend using the example they gave you. I didn't change that much in it and it was approved.
