Is it bad that part of me wants to avoid specialties that DO's can easily match?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
When will SDN realize that 240 is only needed for a few fields also a majority of these guys want these specialties just because they are competitive not because they generally want to go into these fields.

About the same time men stop pursuing shallow unintelligent gorgeous women.

The OP's got a point.

It's the same reason why grads would rather go to a program without a lot of IMGs. Such programs are seen by some to have lower standards, even if it isn't true.

Yeah, I don't get what the big deal is. Even DO's probably wouldn't want to go to a program that is all FMG's. The composition of the housestaff is a proxy for the desirability and competitiveness of the program

Never because it's not true. Of course there are people who fall in love with prestige but the majority of people who choose one of the competitive fields choose that field because they have a legit interest and/or lifestyle/money.

If it was all about going into the most competitive fields then NSurg and Plastics would have a lot more applicants.

Of course a 240 is not needed for most specialties but it is always helpful. IM is not hard to match in general but the competition for the elite/desirable programs is high. I'm sure it's similar in fields like GS, Anes, and EM
