Hello,

I'm going to ask my PI from last summer for a letter of recommendation, but I haven't talked him in over a year (it was at another University). My question is, is it better to approach an advisor that you haven't talked to in a while to with an email or a phone call for a letter of rec.

Thanks in Advance.

email to set up a time to talk. this way he or she can talk to you at a time you know is convenient for both of you. in the email you should include a resume, personal statement, and anything else that might help give your PI a better idea about your goals. good luck!
