Is it better to do Uworld questions as I move through First Aid or should I finish FA before?

Which is more effective for learning? Uworld with FA or Uworld after finishing FA?

=/. I think it depends on how much you can internalize the material. Honestly, in my opinion, you need to know what you are doing or have some idea before you do questions, IMO. If I were to take a test in Chinese, I wouldnt start doing questions in Chinese first.

Medicine, I feel, is a language as much as it is a science. And you need a grasp of the basics before you integrate. Otherwise, you are doing questions in a vacuum and you arent learning anything.

What I mean is doing correlative questions following reading a specific chapter in FA. And progressing through the book and questions in that fashion. Or if I should finish the entire book and then do my question sets.

If I were you, I'd finish the entire book and make flash cards using anki to review everyday. This is months before any step test. And then after I knew everything well, then I'd do what you are saying and read the chapter of a subject and then do questions on that subject.

This is my way. You can trust it or not.

One last thing. I feel like a lot of the knowledge has to become second nature almost. Because some attending will ask you question X about a case or something random and you need to have it on you (meaning it already has to be in your head). So like when you are making flash cards, review the ones that are due each day even if they end up being 500 or something.

Do UW and annotate your FA with the answers, then periodically review your annotated FA.

I didn't open FA until I started to prep for step 1 (ie after MS2). I didn't want to clutter FA with notes from class as the depth of material tested for class is often above and beyond what is needed for step 1.

When I started studying, I was getting around 35% on UWorld questions. What really helped me is that I went through first aid and made flashcards of EVERYTHING and then returned to do UWorld questions. I would review ~2 FA chapters of flashcards/day in addition to doing 1-2 blocks of UWorld questions. I learn by writing things down though so maybe this method works for people like me. Best of luck!
