Is it common for allopathic schools to allow electives during 3rd year?

it seems on the osteopathic side, it is more common for electives during 4th year only.

im interested out of curiosity sake. im not applying md.

Where I am, you may not get assigned a required clerkship for the first month or two of your third year. Then, you must be doing electives during that time.
