Is it difficult for D.O's to match into an allopathic EM residency?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
say the east coast places like NY, FL, GA and out in the west CA. I have heard a lot of talk and a lot of postings on SDN saying do not go to the caribbean if you want to go into a competitive residency, will DO give me a better shot?

it is especially hard if you already have addiction issues before medical school Mr. Vicodin

haha, yeah maybe i should change my name...oh well

is there anyway someone could move this to the osteopathic forum?

I plan on changing my name soon as I dont want it to be so "specific" but they charge you. (rather there is a mandatory donation).

I am a 3rd year D.O. student who is working towards an allo EM residency (not b/c allo so much as the ones I want to go to geographically are all allo) and I think it is very much possible at most places. I have heard of a couple that are not responsive to DO students but screw it, let em go.

I think now a days it is better to be a US DO student than a Caribbean kid...
good luck!

as a PGY 4 DO EM resident, it's infinitely better to be a DO resident than a IMG trying to get into EM.

There's tons of places that will take DO's for allopathic EM residencies. And, there's a lot of really respectable DO EM residencies where you will be trained just as well.

I think that you are better off as a DO in the match, but I think you can argue the case that many DO's have a better experience in medical school.
