Is it just me?

Or do people in the MD/PhD forum seem much nicer than in the MD forum alone?

It's not just you.
I think so too.
I smell a thesis! What will be our controls?

Seriously, I hate you all.

Now being actually serious, realize that there is no actual background checks for posters, so there's a good chance that any poster may be something other than what they present themselves to be (e.g. trolls). Only a small subset of all posters are interested in this forum topic and would seek it out, buried as it is. Thus there's a 'jerk filtration effect' at work here.

Curse you engineers and your incessant need to overanalyze everything. 😉

In all seriousness, I like this forum a lot too. And I do think that RxnMan is onto something; the regulars here are fewer, but we all have our research interest in common, and that separates us from the majority of pre-meds and med students. I rarely read allo, even though technically I'm a straight MD student, but I check in here every day. 🙂

I agree. I would even go so far as to say it applies in individual med school classes as well (mudphuds being a nicer group overall). And they say we have no people skills! 😉

Besides, those of us in combined programs gotta pace ourselves (no place for gunnerism), and those who got their PhD prior to med school (or vice versa) are too mature for that crap. 😎

Oh, and as Rxnman alluded to - many people on allo (and ESPECIALLY pre-med) will never EVER get into med school (I hope! :scared: )

I think another factor is the PhD itself. It really humbles you sometimes. The PhD process can be very hierarchical, and you learn early on that the "gunner" mentality can be very detrimental to your career when dealing with your PI and other people who are far above you. You can't be a jerk, even when you are clearly in the right.
On the MD side, if you don't like your attending, you can just put up with it or talk bad about them for a month, and then you never have to see them again. If you piss them off, you can probably have that grade thrown out. Chances are he won't remember you anyway. If you fight with your PI you are totally screwed. So you learn tolerance and try to conform you your PI's ways, even if sometimes he/she can be a tyrant. Sometimes this is the most difficult adjustment to make in a PhD, sometimes it's easy.

Anyway, that's my 2c...
