the kaplan subject tests are so freakin' hard - is it me or are they hard? am I freaking out for no reason or are they indictive of the real test. if so im soooo SCREWED!!

w00t yankees 5 game sweep of the bosux! YES.kap orgo/math tests are v hard. theyre subject tests,so theyre alot more specific than anything else.

im doing orgo subject tests 3,4,5 right now - and yeah im doing as well as the red sox did this weekend against the yankees (hahahaha - that made my month)

I'm doing just as bad on those subject tests. For those of you who have taken the online kaplan course, do you think if I go over the explanations on those subject test and know how to work those problems out, i'll do fine on the actual DAT?

i don't know, kaplan isn't really good with the bio ( i use my princeton review MCAT books for bio)

they are good with gchem & RC - they get a little annoying with the gchem calculations but its not too bad

orgo & qr are too specific and detailed - too many nit picky questions. especially rxns in orgo - for example the subject tests ask about reagents in the Gabriel synthesis. the DAT is not going to ask you that. I'm not suprised kaplan doesn't ask for Gabriel's wife's name. it gets me mad because i feel like im wasting my time doing ridiculous specific questions when i can be doing something else (ie: sleep, eat, watch tv, bash kaplan on sdn and other procratination tactics)


pat - too easy, i'd say use achiever and get the crap kicked out of you by that PAT and you will be okay on the DAT.

its definetly kaplan. although its true that something like reagents of gabriel synthesis wont be asked on the DAT, but you should kinda know them or be able to pick them out if you were given choices since i'm sure you must have learnt the mechanisms for such reactions when you took orgo right?

but in seriousness you are right, we have to know the reactions and be able to pick them out, know what happens with what reactants to get what products.

dont worry, i'm sure you'll do great. even if your practice scores arent stellar, just remember that they are only practice scores and not indicative of the real thing. keep plugging away and now im off to finish reviewing all of chem in 6 hours. good luck and GO YANKS!

It is comments like this that make me postpone my DAT date. Lol. 🙂 But yes, my kaplan practice tests are the same way. I'm getting 16/17/18 on the sciences, and worse than that on biology. I'm not a stupid person, so I'm just telling myself over and over again that the real thing won't be this hard. 👍 Good luck to you!

I was getting between 80-90% on the kaplan subject tests and thought I was doing poorly. But they're so much more detailed than most of the real test questions -- I only had one or two that I would actually call "kaplan hard" in each section.
