Hi. I got interview invite from Case. I read that some people interview in August 18th, but mine is arranged on late September. Does it affect my chance of admission? Thank you very much.

Your interview is still plenty early... If you don't get in it is not going to be because your interview was later.

It will only make a big difference if your interviews are getting into NOV and of course after DEC 1.

I got a Case interview as well, and when I called to schedule my appointment I actually asked whether an earlier appointment is advantageous. She said no because the committee doesn't even meet to review interviewees until November. So as long as your interview is before November you are in the same pool as everyone else who interviews before November. I am pretty certain this is the way it works with most schools that allow you to pick your own interview date.

Thank you very much! I should now book my flight 🙂

That generally seems to be the case everywhere. People can't always make it on the days the schools give them. It wouldn't be fair to mark down someone who couldn't make a date if it was their wedding, had a million tests, or had something important come up.

Wait, so... for example, if I schedule an interview at a school in October, that's not any worse than doing the interview in September, right?

It only makes a big difference in November if you have your interviews after the adcoms have met for the last time for the Dec 1st selections. As long as you have had your interviews by mid-Nov, then it really is no benefit having an interview in Sept vs- Nov.

I agree with Navy, you really just want pre-Dec 1st!

I guess I should have stated one thing though. Yes, ideally you want your pre-Dec1st selection interview, but there are still plenty of people who get accepted after the first round of accptance letters go out.

Awesome. I was scheduling an interview this morning and the only dates this particular program had available was in November. 😎

But I was wondering, since my interview is 2 weeks before the committee start making decisions, wont I be at a disadvantage because I'm at the bottom of the pile?
In other words, wouldn't they have reviewed and accepted a lot of applicants before me leaving not very many seats open?

Your lucky! I got my interview invite today as well, and the earliest I got was November 28th... 👎 Hopefully, this is still OK as far as being pre Dec 1st 😀

Usually, interviews happening before December 1st are the "early" kinds (aka, the best ones to have). They have the greatest chance of landing your an acceptance (cause the dental class is still empty, theyr throwing out acceptances left and right ~ figuratively speaking lol)

No, you wil not be at a disadvantage. Schools usually meet the week before Thanksgiving to make the final selections of the 1st round of acceptances. You application will not necessarily be on the bottom of the pile.

Nov 28th - probably not since most school meet before that date for final selections of the first round of letters.

It is much more advantageous to get an early interview date. San Antonio filled up almost all their seats last year during the first month of interview sessions.

Imagine the people that were interviewing later, they were all competing for the last few remaining seats.

Applying early is SO important!

I just called Case, the earliest they had for me was December 5th :/ I am not sure if this is late in the game or not, but I am OOS and they love OOS applicants!

bro i am in the same position right now, I called a day after my interview offer and its already booked until December!

This might be a case of significant exaggeration. It is unlikely that SA interviewed 96 in the month of August. Only 3 of 35 (predents.com) that were accepted at UTHSCSA were interviewed in August and 8 of 35 interviewed on or after Dec. 1.

After some thought...... I sort of have the opposite question. Can it be more advantageous to have a interview date later in fall but before December? Since the admissions committees meet again in November to determine who is accepted and rejected, wouldn't it be better to have an interview around that time so the admissions people remember you better during their meeting?

yes, that's what i was thinking too! haven't spoken to admissions officers about this issue, but my friends and family mentioned that's the approach they took when scheduling interviews for med/dent schools.

i just scheduled my UCONN interview for Nov. 14th although there were still lots and lots of openings before. It is my one of my top schools and I'm in-state. After reading this thread, i'm kind of nervous that i made the wrong decision. I don't want adcom officers to think i'm not eager about the school!
