Is it necessary to finish all pre reqs before time of application to dental school?

Hello everyone, I plan on applying to dental school this upcoming cycle! The main problem is that i am in physics 1 and lab right now and plan on taking physics 2 with lab during the next fall semester of my senior year which will be past the time i apply to dental schools. A side note, i really would prefer not to take a gap year. Will my application still be looked at and taken seriously if i do not have that one class (physics 2) done? I was given bad advice from an advisor saying that physics was not totally necessary to take right away but the advisor was mistaken and thought i meant in terms of the dat since physics is not on that. So just because of that i started physics a semester too late. Ik a lot of school websites say you must have them done by application but after talking to some schools and talking to others they have said that is okay not to have some pre reqs done such as physics and even orgo lab! Many have said that as long as you complete everything by the time of matriculation in to dental school you should be fine. SO my main question is will i be okay to apply and possibly get in without completing physics 2??? Also is there a place on the application where you can say when you plan on taking physics 2 (or any other incomplete pre req)? If this helps at all my gpa is 3.67 overall with 3.73 science and a 21AA, 21 TS, and 23 PAT. Also have shadowing, plan on getting an assistant job this summer before applying, currently and orgo TA at my university, and a president of a non serious club. Also with my stats what schools do you think i have a shot at on the north east coast?

I was taking Physics II and Biochem when I applied to dental school. I had plenty of interviews and acceptances before completing these two courses. After I was accepted I later updated the school with my transcript showing I did complete these classes.(Timeframe: Accepted 12/01, Completed Prereqs 12/18, Updated Transcripts 12/28) There are many applicants that are still completing prerequisites as they apply to dental school. You have nothing to worry about. You have great stats and should receive many interviews! Good luck!

I applied without finishing ochem, physics, or english lol I had 8 interviews offered pre-december, went to 6 and was accepted to 3 schools on december 1st. i am still finishing my prerequisites (will be done this month). for the school i will be attending, i was missing 5 prerequisites lol. i was very hesitant about applying like this but i guess it didn't make too much of a difference!

Interviewed at LECOM, UDM, IU, USC, NYU, and Michigan. Declined interviews at MWU-AZ and Tuoro. Got interest emailed from Case and Marquette after dec 1
Accepted to USC, NYU and Michigan
you said you got interviews pre december, how early did you get them? also were you conditionally accepted as long as you finished pre reqs upon matriculating?

So, taking prereqs during the spring semester/quarter of the year that you will matriculating is okay?

I plan on taking microbio starting Jan 2019. I plan on starting dental school in Fall 2019.

The only school I know that requires at application is Stony Brook. They require that the classes be done upon submission.

***Edited Tufts to Stony Brook.

Never heard this about Tufts but Stony Brook for sure requires all pre-reqs be done at the time of application.
Haha thank you, I was talking to someone about Tufts and CC credits and that is what I typed. Stony Brook is correct and I know OSU requires that you have 9/13 completed.

yup, totally fine (at least in my case). however, i also did not hear back from a good amount of schools and that could have been the reason why? I got into my top three choices anyways!

Rarely does a school require completion of prerequisite courses prior to application. However, some schools such as Ohio State may require completion of at least a certain number of them prior to application. Then, all acceptances are contingent on you completing those prerequisite courses prior to matriculation.

What must often be completed by the time of application is shadowing hours.
