There are many benefits to joining with these groups besides just finding a job and looking good on a resume. As a medical student I would advise you to join ACEP if you are interested in bread and butter EM or SAEM if you have a strong research interest. These are very cheap as a medical student and will show your interest to residency programs. Additionally you will get a journal monthly that you can read in order to learn about what is going on in EM.
Thanks for all the replies, but I am still confused. 🙁
Which one is better, saem or acep? Seems that they have similar anual fees ($120), acep gives you more stuff, such as Annals of EM and acep update. I am interested in research, saem is a better choice?
Thanks again!
i would get to know all of the organizations. EMRA and AAEM-RSA are geared towards students and residents. EMRA has been around longer, but AAEM-RSA is growing pretty fast and is very involved politically.
Additionally, for anyone who is going through the application process right now, the AAEM-RSA has a benefit called EM Select that is very useful when applying to and interviewing at residencies. It allows to to keep and track information. You can find this at www.emselect.org
As I said, you should look into all of them. I joined both AAEM-RSA and EMRA.
