Is it ok I talk about continuing exploring my undergrad major in my essay?

So I'm still in the process of sending out applications (I know i'm so late but i just got my score back last week, it wasn't that great) so in my essays that asks why I'm interested in a certain school, i try to talk about my interest in my undergraduate major (biomedical engineering) and i say how i like the school's involvement in that field and such. Is that a bad thing since i'm not saying how much I'd like to be a doctor? I'm only applying to the MD programs. Help before I send the rest of my apps in and shoot myself in the foot.

BTW, how late am I? Will i get a decent chance at schools? 32M 3.9 GPA volunteering, research. I sent apps to ivy leagues too. Shooting for the stars too much?

to answer the question "why are you interested in the school" i would answer it by saying how the school's reputation in biomedical engineering coincides with your interest in the field and how your undergraduate major will help you when you become a doctor 🙂

in terms of timing, i think you're pushing yourself. you better send in the applications before the end of this month or middle of november at the latest. you have great stats so i don't want you to lose your chance! you're a competitive applicant in my view 😀

Your stats are solid. Definitely everything in ASAP though. I was a politics major, and when I applied to GW I talked about how cool it was that the school was in DC, with the possibility of doing stuff in my free time to keep up my interest and involvement. So definitely mention your major if you think it will give you a good connection to the school, or will make it clear why they're such a good fit. Best of luck.

I think discussing your major would be great to show that you are passionate about a subject, are inspired by its applications, and have general intellectual curiosity. In my mind, those are qualities that are often seen in good scientists, med students, and physicians. There are some schools that will certainly want to hear about your community service and genuine desire to help people, but you can probably learn about those more on the school-specific boards. Good luck! 👍
