money is quickly dwindling. saving a hundred would cover another airplane ticket. i was wondering if it was okay to ask a host for 2nights? or would it be seen as in bad taste?

You could try asking two people instead of asking one person to let you stay two nights. I think that's what one of the med schools I am going to reccommends.

yah, that's better. it is sort of bad taste, i would think (but i really don't know...hopefully current students or people who have stayed with a host can attest to this better). staying w/ 2 different people is a better idea, and you learn more about the school as well.

Actually both schools I have gotten hosting info from have asked if I wanted to stay 1 or 2 nights, so it may not be that big of deal.

When I was making arrangements to stay with people I would tell them my travel plans and then suggest that I stay one night with them and then I could find another place the other night. 100% of the time they said it would be fine for me to stay two nights.

hmm, then i have to ask, i'm interviewing at another school the next day which i'll be driving to. ...... wait now that i think about it, i don't think i should ask for the second host, it would kinda be like they're hosting me for the other school.

really which schools?

it's funny because tulane sends you a letter about hosting and in big bold letters it says they will host for 1 night only. on top of that they tell you it's common courtesy to take the host out for dinner. i plan on doing that for all my hosts, but i didn't like them suggesting that i do so.

This whole "hosting" thing sounds like a complete nightmare to me. Suppose a school has dorms or small apartments. We are supposed to sleep on the floor or on a futon or something in a probably already crowded room/apartment? Is the only reason to stay with a host to save some money? I am just curious. Obviously you learn a decent amount about the school from the host too, but I was just asking. Thanks. I just can't imagine waking up after a poor night's sleep and having to go interview/tour all day.

The host list i picked from had sleeping arrangements included...guest room, couch, etc.

Yeah, I thought that was wierd too  It's kinda obvious that you should do soemthing nice for your host (although I was going to bring a gift instead). I think I'm just going to stay in one of those rooms for $40 though. It seems like a pretty good deal... convenient & I won't have to sleep on someone's floor....

wow, i agree. probably they had some rude guests previously who were unappreciative of hosts?
