Hi,

Sorry, but I have yet another application question. I was just selected as a TA for the next quarter (in fall). Would it be possible putting this in my activities section or do they not want it?

You could mention it in your personal statement.

You cannot actually add in any activities that begin after the month in which you submit the app.

I don't see why you couldn't list it (since you're definitely going to do it) and then explain in the description the actual dates since it won't start till next fall. Could you possibly lump this in with another thing that has already started? (like other teaching/tutoring/etc)

Send that info to the school after you start working, as an update letter. Makes your file pop back up, makes you look better - good deal! 😉

Haha thats an awesome idea! Thanks! Also, would you know if participating in an intramural sport should be noted on the application? It's not really something too serious, just more of a fun activity.

Here's a question along those lines. I am applying this summer, and will be completing my last year of college in the meantime. I plan to graduate summa cum laude, but since I have not done that yet, is it still something I should put down under the awards section? I don't feel like it goes under the "what do you plan to do in the next year" section.

Why not also add recipient of an MD degree -- you plan on getting that, too. 😉

Seriously, I wouldn't do it. Your scores are great. The anticipated honor won't give you any significant boost. By adding an honor you haven't yet been awarded makes me feel like your really stretching to pad your application and makes me suspect of the other things you list -- just my take.

Good point. Thanks.

Hm. This scares me, as I was going to do the same thing. You guys think it's a no?

For reference, I was going to make one of my 15 an "experience" entitled "The Coming Year".
I've been selected to tutor in the Trio program for chemistry, as well as to be a Resident Assistant. Both things I wanted on that application, but both are things that have no real place there. Neither really fits in with the theme of my PS.

Hmm?

I haven't taken a look at the AMCAS activities section yet, so I don't know exactly how it works. However, I think if you've started training or something for a future activity like RA, you could put that down? You've put in time for it already, etc. I don't know, I'd think activities like RA or tutor are definitely worth including on the app. Johanan, about using one of the 15 spaces for "next year", haha, I don't know how that would look

I also have these problems...i just recently filled out the papers for a minor in sociology but it wont be added into my official transcript until much later. There is no reason to think why I would not be allowed to minor so it kinda sucks that I cant add it on...sociology would make me stand out a little bit more than the common biology major. Also I just mailed my nominations for National Deans List and Golden Key honor Society and will not be getting confirmations for god knows how long...I know I should have done it much earlier but all I could think of was the MCATs for the past 5 months and told myself that I would worry about everything else later. I dont think it will hurt me as much because I can mention them in the secondaries and even in the personal statement. But I can see the problems with extracurriculars that you want to include but cant.

Tangent. National Dean's List, is that ACTUALLY worth putting down. I've gotten many of those-types of things in the mail, including National Dean's list itself, and I feel like they don't provide much of an advantage. I took the bait in high school thinking they were actually unique awards, until I recevied the books with about 50K names in each. Just wondering. 😡

Darkshooter...I am not expecting to get a 40 on the mcats so everything i can do I will try...its not going to hurt me...there is actually another thread regarding the NDS and most ppl (including myself) does not believe it carries any amazing weight on the apps but you never know how ppl are choosen so why not...I believe their is an awards section on the apps so I wanted to put something in there.
