Is it possible to transfer to another dental school while in 3rd year?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

I'm an international student and I got into a very expensive dental school (NYU) to start school in Fall 2012. I have applied for my green card and I will have it in approx 2 years from now. I will be close to getting into the 3rd year of my DDS program then. Now if I have my green card then, will I then be eligible to get federal funding for the remaning 2 years of my dental school and may be qualiy for an HPSP(health professions scholarship programs), IHS (Indian health service) or IBR loan repayment and forgivenessprograms?

Another question is...Is it even possible that one can transfer to a different dental school to finish D3 and D4? Just thinking out loud and seeing if there is a possibility of any of this and if someone has done this before? Thanks for your inputs guys.

Yikes. Do you simply enjoy boosting your post volume by continuously contributing useless information? So the OP is supposed to speculate on transfer history and logistics based upon unrevealing data in that terribly crafted excel document?

OP - Call or email NYU. Set up an appointment. There are staffed employees paid to answer these types of questions. NYU has a long history with international students and the many relevant concerns and circumstances. As for the general prospect of transferring to another DS - yes, it has happened before - yes, it will happen in the future. However, due to many reasons, including the wildly different curriculum structures at various DS across the country, transferring is not a common occurrence and may very well never occur at some institutions.

I would get in contact with representatives of those programs. There's a military dentistry forum on SDN, so you can try asking there.

Transferring is not impossible but it is EXTREMELY difficult and a huge hassle. If you want to try HPSP or something similar, why would you consider transferring if cost will not be an issue around D3 time?

Federal Law prohibits non-US citizens from becoming an Officer or Warrant Officer in the US Armed Forces. A Green Card non-US Citizen can only enlist. One of the eligibility requirements of HPSP is status as US citizen.
