I posted some info not that long ago regarding Ross' 2013 class that can be found here (draw your own conclusions):

Furthermore, there is a lot of concern about the decreasing number of funded GME spots and the expansion of U.S. medical schools and positions at existing schools. Some feel that the competition will be too tough in a few years for Caribbean (or other true IMGs) to even be considered for residency, unless they go to a U.S. program. My assessment is that the gap will narrow by 2021, but there will still be some spots available to non-trad grads.

I posted info on this topic beginning here:

Whatever you chose, be informed and good luck!

Even those specialties are not guaranteed coming from the Caribbean. You should still do your best to get into a US school first.

It is safe. It is also stupid.

Trust me...you have no idea what FM is, and you do not know what specialty you actually want to pursue.

You may think you know for sure that you want FM but ask any medical student 10 times throughout their schooling, and most will be 100% sure about going into 10 different specialties depending on the day of the week.

You wont know what you want to do until 3rd year. The worst thing you could do is find out that you are in love with <insert specialty> and then find out that you have zero chance of matching into it.

Best advice i have heard in med school so far: shoot for the most OPTIONS, not necessarily one specialty.
