I interviewed at VCOM but havent heard yet if I got in. They are clearly my Number 1 choice of school and I was wondering if it is too early to send a letter of intent. Would that be included in the ADCOM meeting if I send it before they meet? Will it really make a difference at this point?

Hey congrats on the interview! I didn't even know you had one. I always thought LOI were sent if you were waitlisted but I honestly don't know much about that. Maybe someone here actually has some good input. 😛

can i send a letter before even getting an interview?

Honestly, I would call VCOM and ask them. The admissions people there are so nice and would give you an honest answer. Plus, they could tell you if it would make it in time for the adcom meeting and that kind of thing. Keep us posted!

In general LOI are written when students recieve a waitlist letter from a school you are intersted in. However if you want to write one earlier or if you are planning on writing one at all speak to the schools admissions office to know exactly what they want you to do. Many pre-meds don't take advantage of a school admissions office. They usually will be very helpful and can answer your questions with definite answers.

thanks all, I might contact the office today. I'm still trying to figure out the numbers game for people that interview. I dont want to fall in that % that dont get in from getting an interview like I did last year. If you interview early in the cycle do you have a better chance of getting in than if you interviewed later in the cycle... say January? I dont know if I'll be able to take these next 9 days of waiting.

Just wait and see if you are accepted/waitlisted/rejected. If you are waitlisted, then send a LOI.

Good Luck :luck: I'm sending you good thoughts for an acceptance! 🙂

The best advice is to contact the admissions office and ask them.

Personally, I think that a LOI can help if the ADCOM is deciding between accepting you or waitlisting you. If you get the feeling that you may be waitlisted, I would send that LOI in before the ADCOM meeting. It could make a difference, and you do not really have anything to lose since VCOM is your number 1 choice.

Again though, contact the admissions office; every school operates differently.

I'm going to go against the masses here and say its never too early to send a LOI. But its got to be good, and you should be telling them stuff you haven't said before.

I basically hounded NYCOM until they accepted me 🙂
