I don't know if anyone is in my situation. But here is my story. I came to US as an international student, got MS Biotech degree and worked in academic research labs for over 3 years now. As I'm going along with time and experience, I feel more inclined towards in medicine than research. I am not interested in a Phd program and want to get into an MD program in the US. Being that I am international, makes it harder:scared: .

But I still want to go all the way to pursue my dream. How hard is it to take the MCAT? Is it really hard for an international student to get into medschools in the US? How much score would one need on MCAT to get into medschool.😕 I want to try as much as possible to make it happen. Somebody told me that I would need more course work and some "volunteer" experience,etc.. Please advice me on how to prepare for this. I am very interested in medicine. I greatly appreciate your advice and help on this forum.

I think it would be a good idea to first set up an appointment with a pre-health professions advisor at your school...find out which professors are worthwhile, etc. Get things in order for your endeavor.
There are a number of steps to take, first-off being the necessary pre-req's. I am thinking that you have had some good exposure with the biotech degree???

Yes docolive, I am going to meet up with some professors to discuss... Like u said, I do have a lot biotech experience, like internships in big drug companies, research publications and a lot of lab oriented training and some teaching experience, I also have some clinical lab experience.....I worked into two NIH funded Comprehensive Cancer Centers thus far..... Only thing is that previously all of my schooling was not in the US till I did my MS. My undergrad and high school is from a foreign country, so I worry if that will be a problem...... But I am hopeful 🙂

Hi twinklestar!

I was just surprised to see someone in exactly the same situation as I am right now. Only, well, I'm pursuing my MS Biotech degree right now (I'm also a international student) and I'm taking the MCAT in July/August. I'm also disinclined towards a PhD and will love to go to medical school, here. I'm gathering information for myself, and will love to share it with you. The SDN forums and forum members are fantastic and really encouraging!

Good Luck!

Praj

Hi Praj, that is very encouraging.... I am happy that you've made the decision and will be soon taking the MCAT in August...Good luck with the preparation and everything else..... Did u have to take any pre-reqs ? What is the best way to start MCAT preparation ? I'm a bit nervous coz its been a while since I came out of school...just wondering if I'll be able to do all that math, physics,etc.... I hope to hear more from you and yes, it will be great if you can share more information... Enjoy your day !
