Hey guys,

From the boards here, I've gathered that it is optimal that people submit their application by early June. However, I've just started asking for recommendation letters, and I haven't even started thinking about my personal statement. I am a third-year right now, and right now I am prioritizing studying for my finals and writing my final papers. For those who applied straight through (and submitted in June) , how did you balance applying for med schools and school-work? Should I even consider applying now and submitting by mid-June? Is it okay to submit your application in July?

For those of you who like politics =):

Yes you can submit your application in July. Finish your school work then worry about the application.

I think the important thing to answer first is if you took the MCAT or have even begun to study for it.

I'm planning to submit my application in early June, and I haven't asked for LORs or started my personal statement. I'm banking on it being possible, but then again, I'm not in school now either.

Again, you haven't said anything about the MCAT.

Awkward....

Regardless, BABS argument applies either way.

Yep. Awkward.

I could blame it on viewing this on my iPod and the comments are far enough apart to not see their names but that isn't entirely true. I just didn't bother looking at the names.

I'm certainly not an expert, but I'd say delaying until July is better than hurrying your PS. Get started on it the minute you can though.

I submitted in July and didn't even have the excuse of "I was busy with school" as our school finishes by the end of April - I just wasn't happy with my personal statement.

What's more important is that you are complete at each school as soon as possible - look up the secondary prompts and start working on them before you are invited to complete the secondaries.

Yes, I took my MCAT already. It's just the personal statement and the letters of recommendation that's making me worry.

Since most professors are notoriously bad about LORs, I recommend asking for them now, before school lets out. You can start working on your PS after you finish finals and be fine, but you should get on the LORs now, because if you don't, you might not see them until September, which may delay some of your applications.

Just my $.02.
