Hi I'm new here and have a question for all you smart people 😀 I was going to wait for the next application cycle but I want to give it a shot since the AACOMAS date isn't up yet. Is it worth applying now? Would I have a shot to interview at least? What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance!

Did you send out the AACOMAS out yet? If you haven't I wouldn't recommend since it will take some time to process that first.

That's right. The deadline is April 15, 2006 (AACOMAS).

If the deadline has not passed it is not too late. Do you want to go to medical school in august? If the answer is yes then apply right away, contact the admin department and explain. Contact AACOMAS and make sure you application is processed. Do everything right any you will have a %90 chance of being in next years class. (I actually applied after the deadline and was invited by the school to apply directly, but they said they wouldnt do it again because it was too much of a hassle)

I hate to play the part of the pessimist, but telling someone that is trying to get in a mere two months before the beginning of the next cycle that they have a 90% chance of getting in is just cruel.

There are people on here that have interviewed way back in the Fall that haven't heard back yet(and might not EVER hear back) that would LAUGH if they read this.

To the original poster, I would save your money and apply in two months. During those two months, make sure your letters of recommendation will get to all the schools you designate by July, polish your personal statement, and do this application process the RIGHT WAY. Scrambling desperately right now will only be a waste of money and your time. I'd put your chances at more like .0090% percent.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but even with stellar stats( and by that I mean 4.0 GPA 30+ MCAT) the admissions committee would seriously have to ask itself what someone who claims to be motivated is doing applying so late in the cycle that it's practically the NEXT cycle. My guess is that you applied to allopathic schools and struck out and now you're applying osteopathic because you think you're a shoo-in. After all, osteopathic schools are EASY to get into, right? I sincerely hope that this isn't the case and that you're just clueless about the admissions process. If the former is true, then please don't grace us poor dumb 'ol osteopathic duds with your humble presence. If the latter is true, then you need to know that applying early is the best advantage to have in this process. Make sure your application is in and ready for processing on June 1st, and go from there. Depending on who you are, either GOOD LUCK :luck: or PLEASE GET INTO AN ALLOPATHIC SCHOOL; OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE ISN'T A FALL-BACK. 😡

I sincerely think this person has a very good chance of getting in if they are able to assemble a decent application before the deadline. I know that the class is not full and that since western has increased their class size they have had to interview untill May and even June to fill their class. I would not tell someone they had a good chance unless i really beleive they do.
This person may have a situation similar to my own, i was planning to apply for this year. I took the MCAT in April and attended the osteopathic awareness conference the next week to get more information for the upcoming admissions cycle. I was told that they still had space in the class and would accept a direct application since the AACOMAS deadline had passed. I decided what do I have to loose a couple hundred dollars. I interviewed in early June with about 8 other people and several of them are now my classmates. Well here I am in the class of 2009. This person is probably way ahead of where I was, and if they have already started gathering their aplication materials they have a good chance. I think my experience gives more accurate information to make a predition.

If your stats are stellar, then apply. You won't have wasted that much money. If your stats are marginal, start now on getting your LORs and PS ready; then, apply as early as possible to multiple places. It was a surprise for me, but there are some professors who will actually take several months to write your LORs, even when you mention it to them once or twice a week. That is often one of the biggest hold-ups for an application.

i priority mailed my secondary application today. I finished hte primary application on Feb 12. It was confirmed by March 8th. I don't think your primary can be confirmed before April 15th.
