Hi, I was wondering would it be too late to apply to some of the DO schools with later deadlines. I just got my august mcat I got a v7 b10 p11 writing Q.
GPA of 3.5. Should I apply now or should I wait around another year. It seems to me like this is not a very competative score for MD. Also is the application process in DO on a rolling basis? Do you recommend applying now?
Thanks a lot

Your GPA and MCAT are competitive. It's getting late, but not too late yet. I would give it a shot for this year. Get everything in ASAP.

I probably wont be able to get in my application for another month or 2. Would you say I should still apply. Also, should I get a letter from my research lab because I did not see that mentioned on the DO websites? Because this part may take me the most time. I also have a letter from a MD, should I go out and get one from a DO? or use that one

thanks a lot

Some schools require a DO letter rather than MD but most say either DO or MD. However, even those schools strongly recommend the letter be from a DO. It isn't too hard to shadow for a couple of days...most DOs know that you need a letter and are happy to do it (at least in my experience).

I only have 1 rec letter on file from a biochem professor, I still have to get
4 more
they will all write it I have contacted...but not sure when it will be done
when would u recommend to apply at the latest

I would send the primary and not wait until you get all of the LOR's..those are usually sent with the secondary anyway..

get that AACOMAS in now...

work on lor's while it's being verified

how much time do you think it will be between turning in the AACOMAS and secondary?

once your app is in and your trancripts received, it will be at least 3 weeks. then, some schools will send out a sec and some already have it on their websites. did you write your personal statement yet? the charcter limit for DO is less than for the MD app. PS is probably the most time-consuming part of it. :luck:

should i write about being a DO in personal statement?
also do you think I have a good chance of getting in? I see people are already getting their acceptances. I really would want to go to Western university although this is mainly because I dont really know much about the other schools. Is a 7 in verbal too low or is this ok?
thanks

I didn't write about being a DO in my ps.Rather I explained why I want to be a doctor. I figured the secondaries are going to ask that question and I didn't want to end up rewriting what would have been in my PS had I written about why DO.

But it is entirely up to you... if your PS flows better with a why DO vibe, then go with it. G'luck!

I don't think a 7 in VR is too bad because my friend got into Western with a 6. She applied really late in the cycle too.

Did you send in your AACOMAS yet? If not, do it now because processing that puppy takes awhile. If you already submitted it, I do not think it'll take you two months to finish with applications if you're on top of them. Granted it is up to schools as to when they send you their secondaries. You should have a turnaround of the application in less than a week. My advice is to the prewrite for the secondary essays if you choose to apply this year. Your stats are competitive, so apply now. Best of luck.

Anyone know if Western is a good school?

Rolling admissionds yes.

A low score for an allopathic school is NOT a reason to apply to a DO school. 👎

and based on this, I would say it would not be a good to time to apply to a DO school until you know why you want to be a DO vs an MD.

western is an excellent school, i had my interview there in september, and everyone was really nice. the campus looks a bit dodgy, but otherwise everything is ok. your scores are competitive, i just received my acceptance there with a 27P (9,9,9) and a 3.48, so if you get your app in ASAP you will be fine.

i didn't write about being a DO in my PS, just why i wanted to be a doctor. didn't feel like writing two separate personal statements. it'll be asked in your secondary anyway.

good luck, let me know if you have any questions!
