I am OMS3 at a DO school and my rotation ends at end of May. We have to go to OMM week (ugh I know) in the first week of June, then it is up to us to study for boards/set up our 4th year rotations.

I am currently interested in general surgery or radiology. I will have GS in February and will decide by the end of Feb. Thing is, my general surgery is with a community doc and I didn't get a radiology elective, so letters are an issue. BUT rushing to take step 2 by end of June then moving for auditions seems like a disaster..

If I use June-mid July to study for step 2, is it too late to start auditions/get additional letters starting in August? My concern is a 2-3 week dedicated then packing up and moving for audition in July seems too tight... but I also need LORs by mid September right? and I don't have a radiology letter (if I decide to go for rads) or more GS letters (if I decide to go to GS).

My school is not helpful because they told me "you only need to do 1 or 2 GS auditions as a DO" which is ridiculous. What is the best move here?

1) Take Step 2 and COMLEX 2 at the end of June after 2-3 week dedicated to prioritize starting auditions in July.

2) Take a longer dedicated by using "vacation time" to study more on Step 2, and start auditioning in August.

I would very much thank you for your advice.
