If you are holding multiple acceptances, is it proper etiquette to contact the school that you intend to matriculate at?
By May 15th, you need to withdraw your acceptances from all but one. After that date, if a school you are wait-listed on accepts you off the wait list, you can drop the acceptance you hold to accept the offer from the school that you were wait-listed at.If you are holding multiple acceptances, is it proper etiquette to contact the school that you intend to matriculate at?
what exactly is the point of holding multiple acceptances if you already know your school? I dont see any reason to hold onto any acceptances except your currently-accepted top choice, and then to drop whatever you are holding as acceptances come in from schools you prefer more. Only reason to hold more than 1 at a time is if you really don't know which school you want. Drop all the other ones and let some wait-listers into med school a little earlier.
I agree. I am only asking once I have made my decision.
Once you have made your decision and withdrawn from all other schools, you ALREADY HAVE told the school you wish to enroll.
Ahh. But have you? I want to let the school know that I am excited to matriculate. I am not simply choosing the lesser of several evils. Hehe.
Wanting to tell someone that you're excited to matriculate is very different from what your original post suggested. I would suggest you talk with your mom about this. Or your significant other. Or your dog.
My initial advice stands.
Also I dont see any point in flooding admission's emails with "boy-gee-willikers am I excited" type posts. You were just admitted to medical school. They already know you are excited 👍
Are you hoping this will help you in some way? Or do you just need an outlet for the excitement? If that is the case I suggest you make a signature with lots of dancing emoticons. This appears to have been working for other SDNers
^ LOL
Seriously though, I brought up my original questions simply because I thought it might be a good idea that the school knows who is definitely matriculating (and not waiting for a waitlist option or something). I still think it might be a good idea to just let them know that I intend to enroll (once I make that decision).

I am not positive of this, but I believe if you don't drop all but one acceptance yourself by May 15th, the schools can drop you themselves if they see you are still holding multiple acceptances.
It's crazy how many times the 'May 15 Rules' have come up and they seem to get twisted every time someone re-states them..
If you are holding multiple acceptances and don't drop them by May 15:
- You will lose your deposit at the schools you don't end up attending
- You will most likely be given an ultimatum (or time limit) to make your decision or the school will drop your acceptance. I seriously doubt any school will just drop your acceptance without contacting you first and saying something to the effect of 'You have 2 weeks to decide or we will need to offer it to someone else'. Schools will be aware that you are holding multiple acceptances after May 15, they will also be notified when you get in off a wait-list after May 15.
Nothing in the rules says you 'Must' drop by May 15. The rules say that you will lose your deposit if you don't and that it then belongs to the discretion of the school to decide if they would like to revoke your acceptance.
Thank you for this. I wasn't positive how exactly it worked. It's crazy how many times the 'May 15 Rules' have come up and they seem to get twisted every time someone re-states them..

Of course, some schools have non-refundable deposits anyway (Meharry).
and like... ALL DO schools....
What if you applied to both DO and MD programs, and you have withdrawn from all schools except your top-choice DO and top-choice MD. Does the May 15th deadline still apply in this case. Will the MD school be able to see that you hold another acceptance at a DO school and vice versa?
I was under the impression that schools would want to know an applicant's final decision (even if it's just saying "I'm excited to be matriculating here next fall"). It seems like a polite thing to do.
No. But why not just make the choice?
