Is it unethical to have your pre-professional health committee send their evaluations out to osteopathic schools if you've applied early decision to one allopathic school? I'm almost positive I won't get into the allopathic but I figure I'd try (it's a lot cheaper to go b/c its in-state) and its the only allopathic I applied to - I like the osteopathic way of medicine much better.
I'm having a little trouble. Was it wrong of me to even request the letters be sent to osteopathic schools yet. I suppose it doesn't really matter since they won't be getting my allopathic rec out until August 25th. Then by the time I hear from the allopathic, I should have secondaries from the osteopathic (if they like me) and then maybe my evaluations to the osteo schools will be in by late September.
Here's another ?, if they (the evaluation) doesn't get to the osteo schools by sept, but I have everything else in, do I still have a chance or is that way too late?

It's not unethical. AMCAS restricts you to applying to one MD school if you're early decision; the restriction does not apply to DO schools. I know many people who have done this. All of them fully intend to go to the MD school if they are accepted; but since you're not restricted from applying DO during the MD early decision process, you might as well stay ahead of the game.

There is virtually nothing unethical about getting into medical school of any kind. It is all one big game!!

hmmm not so much i agree that you can get away with murder....but i think that you can apply early decision to MD and do regular decision with DO.

do it. there is nothing wrong with it.

Absolutely not. Go ahead and do it. I have applied to 14 DO schools and will apply soon to about a dozen MD schools. If you get accepted where you want, you can always withdraw your application from the others. This will give people like me a better chance of getting in somewhere.

Best of luck to you.
