Hello, I have been wondering for awhile if it would be worth creating a separate online profile that is specific to the medverse. I have wanted to make something more professional entering med school and use it to get more involved with the countless others who contribute to content online. I want to retain my own personal account which is why I'm inclined to make a second. Any tips or advice would be awesome.

I've known of several people across many different disciplines that do exactly what you state. They even use an alias for their personal social media accounts. I would highly recommend it. Image is everything.

Anything you post online that is linked to you personally can become problematic if someone deems it inappropriate or offensive. We have seen people sanctioned during med school or had their employment contracts non renewed for postings some feel are inappropriate, pics in scanty swimwear, public drinking, nasty political comments, etc.. I think having an anonymous personal account for politics, family and vacation pics makes sense.

IF anyone wants to pair your anonymous account to your personal account they will likely be able to decently easily. The big advice is to not be a dummy with what you post. Keep everything on private too. There is nothing wrong with posting a picture casually drinking a beer at a BBQ but largely posting anything remotely controversial on social media 1) does not change the course of whatever is happening, politically or otherwise 2) can literally only hurt you.

So in essence, just keep everything very buttoned up on social media, there is zero reason to put yourself out there on useless topics or controversial pics and there is just too much to lose.

What a sad career this is for getting reprimanded for just having a life or an opinion.

While I completely agree with you, its literally in most all careers. The real issue is social media giving everyone the impression that other people really care about whatever you may have to say. Like some of the stuff my classmates posted on public profiles was just cringeworthy. Very self-important that many people in todays world feel the need to broadcast their opinions. By in large nobody cares and it can only hurt you to pick a side publicly. Its a lot easier to live like the 90s and maintain your opinions and keep them off twitter. You wouldn't go around with a sign with some of the tweets people have nowadays so twitter and facebook should be treated the same
