Is it worth it to take this one pre-requisite course asked only by one school?

It's kind of a weird situation. I usually come across a few schools with the same prerequisite courses but there is this one school on my list that requires a course that no other school on my list requires. Taking the course would cost me a few thousand dollars. I'm wondering if it is worth it to take the course just to fulfill the prerequisites for this one school or maybe I should just forget about that school. I think I'd have a good chance being accepted in to the school though. I'd hate to take it off as an option. Anyone else been in a situation like this?

Maybe I should call the school and see how important it is to have that pre-requisite course. The course is Ethics. Thomas Jefferson University is the only school on my list that requires it.

I like killing two birds with one stone so one idea I had for the course is that, since I'm a Physical Therapist Assistant and require continuing education credit hours to maintain my license I was wondering if the school would accept if the Ethics course was one of those Ethics seminars (which is a lot less money and time than if I registered for the course at the University. Then I'd be able to use it for both my PTA license and as a pre-requisite. But I doubt those are the same courses. Doesn't hurt to ask though, so I'll call the school.

I wouldn't spend the money unless it's your first choice school. If there is another school that's you have similar chances of getting into but doesn't have that class apply there instead.

You could also see if you can take it after you know you've been accepted. That's what I am doing with Arcadia. They want an advanced bio class where most programs want the 2nd semester of General Bio, so I'm taking that because it fills the prereqs for more schools. Since Arcadia doesn't start until the fall if I get in there and decide it's the program I want I can take a summer class. They even told me I can take their online one. So if Thomas Jefferson starts in the fall you could ask if that would work for them.

I agree, I would only take it if the school that requires it is your top choice. That happened to me this semester, one of my schools required an additional psych that no other school needed. I ended up squeezing it into my schedule for an extra 500 bucks cuz I went over 18 credits. However I only did it because this school is one of my top choices. It depends on how badly you want to go there. Like the above poster said, if there's a similar school that doesn't require it then I wouldn't worry about taking it.

It's not my first choice but I do want to keep my options open. i think the best advice was the "wait until I see if I get accepted" idea because the school does not start until September so I could call the school and ask if I could take the course in the summer, by then I should know if I've been accepted or not. Thanks.
