my first post!

so today Case told me i have to retake my DAT (out of state)

has anyone else been told this?

Do you guys think it is worth it?

My AADSAS GPA's are
overall- 3.38
BCP-3.34
Sci- 3.27

The thing is that i have already taken my DAT's 2 times

here are my scores (first--->second)
PAT 19-->21
QR 17-->17
RC 21-->17
GC 19-->21
OC 18-->20
Bio 18-->19
AA 19-->19

My scores didn't improve much the second time around due to the drop in RC which is crushing👎!

I feel like maybe i have a chance at other schools and I should just consider this a rejection, but it might be worth it to retake. Maybe I could fix my RC... hah maybe it would get worse? Any feedback would be great

I've applied to a lot of schools. Good luck to everyone and thanks. Let me know if you have any q's regaurding DAT... etc

I think those scores are really good. I honestly think u should be able to get in somewhere with ur gpa and DAT. None of your scores are below a 17 which is really good. Unless Case is ur first choice, Id gladly accept a rejection rather than study for a couple of months.....it would be hard to show significant improvement over those scores.

Case always says stuff like that to make you feel like you have something to do. Honestly, I'm sure you'll get into at least "a" school so I wouldn't worry about it. Probably just Case's way of getting you off their back. I'm sure you'll get it somewhere so I wouldn't worry about it just because Case thinks you should. I'm almost certain that ANY dental school would at least "recommend" you retake the DAT if you didn't get in; it's really the only think that can dramatically change your competitiveness. I think you're competitive enough. Good luck

I'd like to know why your scores aren't good enough for Case. Was it the lower scores or the AA? You look good to me, when I open a dental school, you're in.

Case mostly looks at reading comp scores. If you don't get a 20 then most likely you won't get an interview; some exceptions where some have gotten a 19 in reading comp have gotten an interview. For CASe the RC > (more important than) all other sections on the DAT given you didn't bomb more than one section on your DAT. I got a 20AA, but due to my 18RC score I was told the same: to retake my DATs (18 was my lowest score in any section). Also as an exception there was a Cleveland resident who lives very close to Case Dental school that got invited for an interview with an 18 in RC, I am guessing they got an interview because they are in state and live close to the school. To answer the original question of the thread, if you weren't a strong enough candidate u would have gotten a rejection. If u call the school you can verify what u need to improve. By applying to many schools you have maximized your chances of getting in somewhere, which was an excellent decision.

Also don't retake the DATs unless you absolutely know you are going to blow it out of the water and do extremely well like a 22 or higher because it will be the last shot to retake. If u end of deciding to retake then make sure u study long and hard, but I wouldn't suggest retaking unless the schools u have applied to require a higher DAT score, which is most likely not the case unless applying to tough schools. Ask around and see what others say too. Good luck.

yaaah makes sense RC is pretty important.... i had a 21 the first time... i wish they looked at both scores lol. Maybe i shouldn't have retook it! But yeah i also noticed on predents that it's much easier for Ohio residents.

Outta curiosity, did you feel RC was different from the first time to second time?

Or what happened to make your score drop?

Nice scores btw...

i didnt think reading comp was 2 bad as far as questions go.

i was getting 21's on practice tests b4 my first one and got a 21

i got many 21's some and 2 22's b4 my second one and an 18 on the very last one before the real thing (maybe that hurt my confidence?)

either way... the reason i did poorly the second time around was bc my second passage was 23 paragraphs. my whole exam was scanning for answers. I am the kinda person who reads the whole passage
and answers the q's after. it's always worked for me, but this time I got screwed on timing from the massive passage i wasn't ready for so when i read the passages it was more like skimming, to improve my speed, which just doesn't work! my advice... finish each passage in 16 minutes.. Just in case!
