Is it worth it to join the ACP as an intern? Many cite the idea of getting MKSAP for cheaper if you are a member. Is there anything else?

Does anyone know if a new MKSAP is coming out next year?

Thanks!

if you are into academics and publish, after a few years you will be a fellow of ACP (FACP). It would be worth paying for the membership because as an associates member your fee is only 109 as opposed to a lot more when you finish residency,

Yay!!!! You get to put the initials FACP after your MD.

No lay person has any idea what FACP means except it makes you sound more important.

FACP means jack......other than making some people feel like they are more important than they really are and further confusing patients thinking it is some extra training or degree that they have.:scared:

I don't know about as an intern, but it will be necessary to join ACP by your final year of residency and stay in it for the rest of your career. ACP pretty much controls the certification/recertifiation/maintenance of certification programs for IM.
All of the specialties are moving towards having to continuously perform CME/quality improvement to maintain your certification in good status (you can't do it all in the 10th year anymore). Although technically possible to do this without being a member of the ACP, it is a lot easier to do it through the ACP- or if you are absolutely opposed to being a member, paying a higher non-member fee to do the activities at the annual meeting.

yeah, but thats only a full member...associate yrs don't count towards fellow status.

however, i think you get a lower rate for membership after residency if you were an associate member.
