So I have been looking around here and everyone seems to feel like if you don't get your AMCAS submitted bu June 2, your chances of getting in to med school are seriously decreased. Needless to say, this has got me pretty freaked out. I am planning on submitting by the end of the week...should I be worried about this? I have great MCAT/GPA and good ECs and LOR, my problem is that I am trying to really nail this PS, which is proving to be a pain in my a$$.

Amen to that- I am in the same position as you and have been wondering the same thing! It would be nice to have some reassurance. I just keep thinking of my friends last year who all got theirs in around the middle to the end of July. Three of them received 4+ acceptances and the other two received multiple interviews. Their MCATs were 26-32, but all had killer GPAs (3.9-4.0)

Last year I submitted AMCAS in September, and because of a stupid 2nd transcript was only validated in mid-October. I still got 9 interviews, and 4 acceptances.
Relax guys.

Because of early decision, my amcas didn't get sent out to schools until october 3. i think i completed the entire app in the middle of july, and it was sent to upenn by the beginning of august (after verification and all that ****). anyway, i was accepted multiple places after being deferred from EDP, although i did have some late interviews. i wouldn't think you would have any problems sending it in anytime during the summer, as long as you have an app that actually qualifies you for an interview, etc. i think being even later with mine only hurt me with maybe 2 schools, but they weren't ones i was considering seriously anyway. you'll be fine, just be realistic about your chances at each school. good luck.

June 2nd is insane...don't listen to people on this board (including me?) they are a bunch of neurotic freaks. You don't want to wait until the last minute but if I was on an adcom, I would put those first applications (that came in within 24 hours of the ability to submit) right in the bottom of the stack. I don't know if I want people that neurotic in my program.

Amusing yet interesting point. I wonder if this happens?

as far as the ps is concerned, perfection is the enemy of the deadline. you have to find that magical balance of a well-written, fluid, error-free essay without making it so polished that you lose the "personal" side of it.

From the words of a dean of admissions at a florida school: when you're ready to send your application, sit on it for another 2 or 3 weeks. He said that since the committees that review your apps have rotating members (including first timers), there is a chance your app could be one of the first to be read by those rookie readers.

Thanks for the input. That definitely makes me feel a bit better. And about the PS and perfection, I know I can never get it perfect, so I am not trying to. I just am struggling with balancing details and personality with enough solid information in only 5300 characters.

I submitted my AMCA's last year on or around July 1st and I received verification about 2 weeks later. The nice plus about getting verified early around this time was the schools access to your file and offering secondaries quite quickly. For me, that was a plus to do all my secondaries during the month of August. I finished all (12) my secondaries before I headed back for my senior year. I watched my fellow premeds juggling the secondaries, :meanie: classes, 🙄 ec's, and trying to enjoy senior year. 😛 Meanwhile, I was receiveing my invites and flying around the country for interviews. 😀 July is still early.

you are going to hear what you want to hear on this issue. just submit as early as you are ready.

Is Mid-July too late?

My goal is to submit by this friday or next monday and hope to get verified in a week (amcas already has my transcript). I think we should be ok since word around here is that med schools dont start downloading apps until mid july.

I'm planning on submitting this week. Just trying to finish up the PS. AMCAS also already has all of my transcripts. 😀

To the OP: July is waaaaaaaaaaay early. Just wait until September, October, etc. roll around. Then we'll all see the "Is it too late to apply?" threads popping up all over the place. :meanie:

I would say you are still "early" as long as you are in by August. Those of us that have applied already are just waiting to be transmitted and get secondaries right now anyway.

You guys shouldn't say "submitted my AMCAS." Its either "submitted my AMCAS application," or if you are lazy, submitted my AMCA. Its the opposite of saying "Hope I do well on my MCAT test," or "I need to get some cash from the ATM machine."

And before I get lambasted, I am not serious, just trying to kill 20 minutes before I leave work.
