I have noticed that some IM residency required a LOR from the IM chairman of your school, but what about if you are just applying for a prelim year? do we still need to get a letter from the chairman? Thanks!

Students in my class sent out a mass email(from research/collaboration of the class) about which programs require med chair letters for prelim positions. Some do. Some don't. You need to ask each program individually to see if they do.

You need to ask each program individually to see if they do.

If you check out the websites linked through ERAS for each program, you probably won't even need to ask, everything they require is generally spelled out. It's a rarity if a school does require one though, based on the many I've perused.

Thanks all for the reply. I wasn't sure because some the links from ERAS have LOR from Chairman as a requirement for Internal medicine, but did not specify about prelim year. I will just get one from the chairman just in case. Thanks everyone.
