Well I know that UMich isn't MGH, BID or BWH, Hopkins, etc. but what level is it at? The interview was great there. They really sold the program. They do a lot of big cases and have new equipment. They do research. The reason that I am asking is because I had multiple attendings on other interviews discuss UMich's program, most likely because of my med school. I got the range of comments on why I would not want to go there but the consensus was that it was a solid, but not well regarded program. Of course these attendings were (hopefully) trying to recruit me into their own programs so I do take it with a grain of salt. Discuss please.

While I agree that Michigan is not in the same class as JHU, MGH, or BW, it is definitely a top 10 program. I also think that it is much better than BID except that the location is not ideal 🙂

i beg to differ from the above post...michigan is actually a much better program than jhu, ucsf, and bwh. great chair awesome training. even though i didnt match here , i did interview at the others and to me it was hands down better than mgh or jhu

beauty is in the eyes of the beholder i guess!😍

I recently asked Dr. Ron Miller what he thinks are the "best" anesthesia programs in the country, he responded:

"From my point of view, there are quite a few, which includes Mass General, the Brigham, Penn, Duke, Johns Hopkins, Michigan, Washington University in St. Louis, the University of Washington in Seattle, the Mayo Clinic, and several others."

Hope that helps.

Thanks everybody! Out of all of the 'top' programs I only visited Michigan. I have this feeling that the only reason I got an interview there was because I am a resident of MI and they don't really want me. It is a great institution, but I have never gotten in there for anything! Rejected from UMich Engineering 1995, rejected from UMich Med 2000. UMich Anesthesia 2004? One more month.
