Hi guys, so I will probably skip all of the introduction and stuff of how I have gotten to this and get straight to the point. I have met many people who planned to enter dental school majoring in Biology mostly and some other science majors. My question is, would Nursing make a better gateway for dental school as well as a back up route for falling back just in case things don't work out as expected (I like being an CRNA or a dentist, however I think my passion for dentist is somehow greater)? I am majoring in microbiology right now (a major perfectly suitable for dental school, however definitely not a good major without further education), and am in my 2nd year already so I do not have much time left to for changes. If nursing is a possibility, I will get my BSN in two years, assuming I would get accepted in my first try (since I have gotten all the chemistry, math and bio stuff done, just A&P sequence left). I will finish all of the required classes for dental school (including A&P sequence) in another year after getting BSN, then I will work as a nurse while preparing for DAT and apply for dental schools. I know that with medical school, a nursing degree is kinda a disadvantage and some schools even look down on applicants with nursing degrees. However, as for dental school, I think there isn't gonna be that kind of situations since nursing and dentistry aren't that closely related, thus it is more reasonable and understandable to be switching from nursing to dentistry from one's perspective. I am really not being negative or in doubt about my own ability to become successful as a microbiology major, however, there isn't nothing wrong with being realistic and extra careful. 🙂🙂
